Gunsmithing Firing pin disassembly?

Re: Firing pin disassembly?

Some kind of device is the key phrase here. The spring is under high compression. You can remove the cross pin and get it out (and watch it fly in the air, along with the firing pin. But getting it back in without a tool is almost impossible without gouging or bending something. I have the Kleinendorst tools but Sinclair Int'l also makes a set. You'll need both and maybe it's not worth the $60 or so if it only needs occasional doing. A gunsmith will have the tools.

Re: Firing pin disassembly?

The first time I did it I covered the firing pin with a shop rag.

Remember Murphy's rules. Anything (spring) under tension and loosened can almost go into orbit. Or so it seems.

Re: Firing pin disassembly?

One day soon I'm going to do a "how to" on taking the firing pin assembly apart using a little tool I made for about 50 cent using a piece of 3/8" drill rod.
