I'm trying to figure out the final few details of my first build. I'm going to go with a Remington 700 SPS Stainless, it's a 24" 1:10 twist barrel. I'm trying to decide if I want the detachable magazine or the regular bottom metal. It appears that the magazine means you lose 1 round. I'm planning on upgrading to a chassis system soon (AICS or XLR) after I purchase the rifle so I'm not worried about the stock being a POS. Am I missing something that the DM is cheaper?

I've got a Vortex HS 5-15 that I'm mounting on it and I'm trying to decide between TPS or Seekins for the base/rings, with a preference for Seekins as they seem to be a better overall option and I wouldn't ever need to upgrade them.

Re: First Build

If you're planning to go to a chassis in the future then don't bother doing the magazine system now. The bottom metal will be of no use on the chassis.

Re: First Build

It's actually cheaper to get the one with the magazine which seems counter intuitive to me. Is there a big disadvantage losing that 1 round?

EDIT: I don't see it saying heavy barrel in the description for these, are they the normal profile? If so do they make a stainless heavy barrel besides the r5?
