So, i decided to give the snakeskin idea a whirl, jumping into it with not much fore thought.
My first attempt at Digital Camo crashed and burned after my realization that cutting out 50 stencils with a box cutter wasnt happening. So for that ill wait until i get an Exact-o-Knife.

Pictures pretty much tell everything here.
Used a PRIMO's Bag, but any mesh bag works, Preferably with larger holes, and thicker mesh.
Started with Tan, then OD Green. Attempted black spots at the end, but gave up due to fright of it looking even worse.
Next time, when i actually have more practice ill use some stencils for the black paint. Also its difficult, but vital to have the mesh as tight as it can be, to give an even look to it. Oh well
Rifle is just a Crosman Storm XT pellet rifle with a simmons 3-10x40mm scope, Had to start out somewhere with the paint, and wasnt going to start on my rifle

sssssslick. decent looking pattern. for the digital camo, try graph paper, grid paper. also, pinking shears. used in sewing. cuts a zig zag pattern. plus with all the crafts, scrapbooking and martha stewart stuff, im sure you can find an easier way to cut a digital camo pattern. just a thought

Re: First Camo Job (Pictures)

Good job on the paint. Don't try this tactic on an AR15 type of rifle though as the results won't be nearly so good due to the irregular shapes of the rifle. Bolt guns are a lot easier to mess with.

Well i did the snake skin camo to the Mossberg.
Basically the same turn out, but looks good.

Digi is very time consuming. Might do it to my rifle down the road

Re: First Camo Job (Pictures)

I just did a snakeskin on an AR that I just built. If I can get pics, I will. I did it because a lot of the parts that I put on the rifle were old extras that I had kicking around. Not a great job, first attempt, but I did find that using clothes pins tight all around the bottom of the mesh made it work much better. I used a standard $6 camo mesh from the local army/navy store. Even with the uneven parts on the AR it did a lot better than I expected. Now if I can learn how to spray paint consistently... Gonna have to get some of my local taggers to teach me how, I guess. They seem to have figured it out at the skate board park ;-)

Not bad on the paint jobs..

Post up pics and an update in a couple months and show us how they wear if any at all. I was told Krylon wore out pretty easily. I wanna see how it tuffs up before I go on spraying my 700. And if it does ware how it looks.

Re: First Camo Job (Pictures)

Hmmm, you gave me a great idea with that digital masking. I have a Vinyl cutter, and I can order a "masking" vinyl which is simply made to mask paint. I could cut out a complete digital pattern and simply stick it on whatever you want and paint it... I might have to try that out, anybody interested?

Re: First Camo Job (Pictures)

looks great--i wanted to attend that Lauer school to learn how to paint AR's--mostly to learn how to prepare all the diff surfaces for paint--have already done the Krylon and want a very
durable and long-lasting camo job--the camo-dip stuff did not last too long on a rough use predator rig--scrapes off and leaves white spot to touch up--wondered if a clear flat paint could be used over dip camo to make wear better--your camo jobs are obviously getting better with experience--keep up the pics!!

I applied Krylon Protective Clear flat sealant after i got done, so hopefully it will last for a while.
I can definitely see the possibility of it scratching, and exposing the base stock. But i think it looks miles better than the scratched/worn stock that i started with.
