While he won't win the big buck contest, I thought I'd share my first deer with the 30P-1.
Its mounted on a 16" model 7 in 308 that I put a PSS take off barrel on and had cut down.
Handy little rig. And while we all know them SMK's won't kill critters....nobody told him!

Re: First deer with suppressor

Where did you hit him? How far did he run? Lets see the damage, did you get pics of the internal damage? Barrel twist/bullet weight?

This is my first year suppressed hunting as well, and with a similar setup. Any extra details would be great.

Re: First deer with suppressor

Shot him in Upshur County. We have a lease on the Sabine river that produces some nice deer.
I shot him at the amazing distance of 75 whole yards! He was quartering to me, I sent the 168 SMK running about 2425fps into the inside of his near shoulder and it took out the last 2 ribs on exit. He piled up within 30 yards. That barrel is a 1:10 factory PSS take off. His chest cavity looked like a soup kitchen gone wrong and the exit wound was blood shot about the size and shape of a football but I didn't document with pics.
I didn't spend any time sifting the soup for bullet fragments, but by the exit hole I'd guess it held together pretty well for a none hunting bullet. I have taken numerous deer and hogs from 30 to 595 yds with the same load and while I have seen differences in wound channels that indicate differences in the SMKs terminal performance......They have all been post mortem inspections.
