Im considering buying a used LMT MWS with a geissele trigger, 5 pmags, KAC rear sight, both LMT sights, troy QD sling mount, and KAC trigger guard...$2300 but its first Gen model bought last December. It does have the new BCG though. What are peoples thoughts on the first Gen MWS vs the newer models? Is this a fair price? Ever since I got my CQB LM8 I have fell in love with LMT guns, but now am looking to get a 308 and was wondering peoples thoughts.

First generation works great and the brass looks great after ejection. Not a single failure of any kind in over 500 rounds; and the hogs & deer won't know the difference.

I wouldn't have any problems buying a first gen, especially the package you listed. Mine has seen a lot of rounds, somewhere between 3-3.5k in matches and general plinking. The rifle has ran like a champ and is easily my favorite rifle to shoot.

When you get it take a look at the bolt and carrier for flaking finish. That's the only thing to keep an eye on. Even if that's a problem lmt will take care of you.

Thanks....so does the gen 2 brass deflector beat up the brass more?

I don't honestly know if that's the cause or the double ejectors being way more vigorous. Check the LMT thread. I think some people commented directly on this point.

What I can say is that my gen 1 brass looks smooth and undented and the case mouth is still nice and round.

Re: First Gen vs second Gen LMT MWS

I have a MWS with Gen 1 upper and new BCG. It's a good solid weapon. It has over 1k of various ammo without issue. FGMM 168 SMK are the most accurate, shooting MOA out to 600 yards.

Only issues I have had are PMAGs seating too far into the mag well and some flaking of the BCG. Magpul has corrected the PMAG issue. As for the flaking, I just wipped down the BCG after shooting and never had an problems. I have shot it enough so all the flaking seems to have worn off.

For that price, I would go for it.

Considering the upgrades; it's a great price (and the fact you won't pay tax on it)if it's in good condition and not beat to shit. Be nice to shoot it first if local or even regional.

Mine too prefers 168FGMM over the 175SMKs. It shoots 147gr milstuff and 150 remington corelocks good enough for blasting hogs at 200 yards all day long.
