First kettlebell workout

Re: First kettlebell workout

i played with some kettle bells last nite on the Precor...more shoulder work while walking. only got to do it for a few mins though as the staff was not amused by my attempts to mix things up. Turns out they don't want free weights near the cardio equip. I can dig it...just finished with some additional shoulder work after the cardio as part of my cool down. kept the weight light. would be interested in structured workout regimine using them though, they have a different feel than dumbbells.

Re: First kettlebell workout

All of the free weight work I've done for ACL reconstruction therapy was with kettle bells. You can do a ton a isolation work, switch muscle groups quickly, and build consecutive exercise routines easily.

Re: First kettlebell workout

I would highly reccomend incorporating kettlebells into your workout. They're a great addition to your back/shoulder work as long as you start the weight light and pay strict attention to your form. Once you start getting tired and your form gets sloppy you need to stop. A good book or knowledgable instructor can go a long way to saving you from injuries. I am doing them along with the TRX bands for a core workout. You can't beat them.

A friend of mine is a certified KB trainer. I believe it is based on Pavel Tsatsouline's concepts. I really like it. My lower back and shoulders feel pretty good afterwards. I need something like this to help me with previous injuries and a needed change up in workouts.

Re: First kettlebell workout

Love the KB, if stuck with a single piece of workout equipment it would be a 54lb bell. My core and back have never been stronger and all I do are the basic swings, snatches, cleans and an overhead press while doing lunges.

Re: First kettlebell workout

I just did an entire workout with a KB last night at crossfit. We were not allowed to set the kb down or we had to do 5 burpees. The workout consisted of lunges, squats, 400m run, 24" box step ups, kb swings and snatches.

If I ever stop going to crossfit I will buy a KB for my house to continue using it. I think it is great for shoulders back and legs.

Re: First kettlebell workout

I just checked out that site and it was pretty good. I would also reccomend www.tacticalathlete.com as well as a really great book on the subject "Enter the Kettlebell." The writing is a little gimicky but alot of the comments on the importance of good form while doing the exercises are really crucial to keep you from injuring yourself. Believe me, it's not difficult to injure yourself with a kettlebell.

Great piece of exercise equipment its in a group of its own in my opinion. I just bought a 62lb one for playing around with and when I go on road trips.

What I like is their are a combination or anaerobic and aerobic exercise.
