Decided to finally throw some paint on my bolt gun after spotting a little bit of rust From mostly sitting over winter. Im not as much of a fan of pattern type of cammo as I am of simple and clean looking. Just my personal preference.

Re: First Krylon Job

Forgot to add that its the green and the tan colors from Krylons cammo lineup. The paint is not as durable as I expected either but o well it will probably look better once it gets scuffed up anyway. Also trying to think how it would look if i painted the scope, the bolt, and the bipod tan too instead of keeping them black.

Re: First Krylon Job

If it was mine I'd break up the solid colors by using some kind of foliage to help make the patterns. There are many DIY tutorials on painting.

+1 you've already got your feet wet. Here's a krylon job using broom sage and red cedar for my foliage pattern

I found that if you do a extremely slight mist of the khaki, it will lighten the brown and ad a slight "3d"ISH/ slight blended look. You wana try it on something besides the rifle at first of course incase you dont like the effect.

Re: First Krylon Job

Might not be the exact way you wanted. Mine turned out a lot different then I imagined, but it was better then I wanted. To be honest that looks a lot better to me then the two tones you had on it earlier. Great job.

Re: First Krylon Job

Congrats on the paint jobs, when my nephews were younger i let them paint a old stock with the rattle can. I wish i had pics of the 1 they used mesquite leaves on. I am always trying paint schemes but then i change my mind, krylon is great.

Re: First Krylon Job

Speaking of Krylon, I just did my rifle and got a small amount of oversprey in the bore. Does anyone think that this could be a problem? Would it hurt to shoot it out or should I properly clean it prior to shooting?

not an issue

If it were me I would clean it for peace of mind.

+1 on the misting over it with the tan. I've done the same thing and a light mist can change it to a more subdued pattern.

Good luck.

Re: First Krylon Job

Thanks for all the positive comments. RFutch, I'm liking the look of that rifle. I had something like that in mind before painting mine. My brown ended up real dark because I couldn't mist it like I could with the Krylon. The brown was Duracoat. Definitely going to try misting to lighten it up a bit.

Re: First Krylon Job

Your color/pattern looks awesome, is just a little "loud" IMO. It reminds me of a copperhead snake. I think when you mist over it you will like it more. Just do real light strokes until you get it where you want it.

Re: First Krylon Job

Ok so I tried the misting and I have fallen in love. Now I'm just waiting for my wife to sign the divorce papers. I tried on something else to check it out before I actually sprayed the gun. The tan was working good, but not what I had in mind so I tried olive green to spray, and it came out awesome. At least I think anyway. I thought the green was better for camouflaging in my surroundings anyway. I'm very happy with it, and thanks for all your help

A piece of art? I think so. A lot better then the beginning product.

Re: First Krylon Job

Wow I really like how that looks now! It muted the brown just enough IMHO. Like others have said the great part of Krylon is that you can change it fairly easy.

My first attempt at a paint job, used Carrot tops to get the pattern, I'm happy with it. </div></div>

Great job man. Awesome idea with the carrots. Welcome to the Krylon club lol

Now that I like!

Re: First Krylon Job

Here's my first go at a Krylon paint job. It came out pretty nice but thruthfully I think that I like the bipod better and that took me all of 15 seconds while my homemade digital camo was much more time consuming. If I had to do it all over again I'd just hit the whole rifle like I did the bipod.

Hmmmmm looks like you could use a little misting on that lol

Re: First Krylon Job

I agree.....In order to tone down the sheen of one of the colors that I used and protect the paint to some degree I used a matte clear over top. Turned out to be more like Satin than matte so now everything has more sheen than I wanted. I hit it with some OO steel wool and that toned it down a bit but I still agree, it does need some misting.

Other than that Its not really camoflauge at all. It looks cool but when placed in grass or foilage it doesn't really blend. Not that I have a real need to have a truely camo rifle.

I'll post some pics after misting to show the before and after.
