I am going to my first match for precision rifle. I am attending the 3 day match at the bradford sportsmen's farm OCtober 21-23. I have shot IDPA on a Local level several times and remembering, even with a ton of shooting and Instructing experience, feeling a little out of place the first few matches.

I am lucky that I am going with a good friend Rickp on here.

I am looking for any advice anyone can give. We all had to have a first match.

Maybe this can turn into a reference for others and get more people from behind the computer to behind the rifle.

Re: First Match

At my first match I showed up with a rifle that had a good handload and a good scope. I learned quickly that other shooters are more than willing to help you out. They will volunteer information and answer questions. Be respectful to them and appreciative of the help! I learned what shooting skills I needed to work on, I learned the weakness in my equipment, and I learned some things to expect in any "tactical" rifle match. There are tactics you must employ in order to have a positive outcome.

Shooting in a match will make you adapt your practice sessions, and if your smart, it will make you push yourself out of your comfort zone. Because that is what the directors of the match are going to do, guaranteed.

Don't show up expecting to finish on top. Just remember there is a learning curve and have fun!

Re: First Match

Yup, just shot my first match as well. Just show up with your gear and a good range card and also an open mind. Just dont be afraid to ask questions, even if it is just a clarification. More than likely another shooter has the same question even the experienced ones.
