After buying my thermal LS64, now it's time to buy Night Vision. I've decided on the Armasight CO-HD Gen 2+ clip on from Delta. I like the clip on system so I can use my existing scopes and the price is right. I will only have the opportunity to use my NV a few times a year for yote hunting, so I won't have a ton of money in my NV just sitting in the safe. My scopes are the Trijicon Acog, 2 Valdada 1.5x8x26 35mm, and Schmidt/Bender 5x25x56. Good scopes for the clip on's? Thoughts? Suggestions? Advice?

I'm thinking 0-300 yds. Most of the hunting we've done using Thermal & NV has been around 75-100 yds but it would be nice to have the 300 yd capability if I'm going to buy my own.

All of them would be fine with ACog and IOR(have same one. S&B at 5x is starting to push CO-MR - so you might have to go for CO-LR

I do have CO-MR Gen 3 Bravo and PVS 22 and there is not much difference. I would suggest Gen 3 for darker nights but I heard what Gen2+ from Armasight is a good thing. Armasight CO-MR is NOT Autogated and you can ruin it by looking at the bright stuff.

That will depend on the tube you have in it, But for sure, I wouldn't go pointing it at bright lights. It does have a bright light shutoff feature, but I will not be the first to test it out, guaranteed.
Overall, how do you like your MR? I'm guessing pretty well if it is performing with your -22? I get about 7x out of the 3p MR with great clarity, but past that it starts to get grainy. I can go to 10x and still tell what I am looking at, but I prefer wider field of view and max clarity over a lot of magnification. This is with the USO 3-17. With my USO 1.5-6 I can't seem to get past 6x with it! ;)
Gen 2 HD is as good of a gen 2 tube as I have seen. The resolution is really high for gen 2. It will have lower SNR than a Gen 3, but with an illuminator a lot of people at demo's think it is gen 3. Granted, most of them are PD's that don't have much NV experience, but the point is...it is very good for gen2.

Is the LR autogated? How much is it with a hand select gen 3 tube? What is the highest effective magnification with say a Schmdit or Kahles 5-25? Can you use the LR at low mag also, say with a 1-6x scope?

If it has the Pinnacle tube, yes it will be autogated. Most of the other choices, no. I will hand select at no charge, but honestly, being such a small operation, I am generally not picking from a large amount of inventory. That said, I have yet to receive a Pinnacle tube with low specs or noticeable blems. If I did, I would swap it out. SNR for Pinnacle tubes seems to be averaging between 28-29 lately, 64lp...in general, great specs. If you weren't happy with one you picked I would take it back and get you a new one.
The alpha's are also good performers. Most of the time they don't come with a spec sheet, but they have all been very good looking tubes so far.

I run the LR gen 3 Alpha with a USO 1.5-6. You can run it all the way down to 1.5 and see just fine, but you will see a slight blurry line extending about 1/4 of the way in to the picture. What you are seeing is the low battery/excessive light indicator. At 2-2.5x it disappears. At 12x I still get a crisp image. I have customers say they run it up to 17x, but in my experience 12x is the peak where you get an absolutely crisp image. Beyond that you can certainly still see what you are looking at, it just gets a little grainy.

April sale prices for the CO-LR are as follows.
Pinnacle $4,175
Alpha $3,950
Bravo $3,650

Please let me know if you have any questions at all.
Thanks!

I wondered if anyone would try to talk me out of the clip on system and instead purchase a dedicated NV scope for a dedicated rifle?

I know you are not asking me... but I'll throw my 2 cents in so it can be confirmed or refuted. There are many many advantages to a clip on. There are three advantages to a dedicated scope.
1. If you are married, it gives you an excuse to by another rifle.
2. It is lighter and better balanced than a day optic/clip on combo.
3. The image will be a little better granted the tubes are similar, because you are not using two optics in conjunction.

So Delta ... you are telling me to stay the course and buy the clip on as planned. It sucks to not have the resources to see these different NV optics and play with them. For about a year I've been reading and learning about NV and want to make the right decision. I need someone to tell me I'm doing the right thing.

Put me down for the CO-X in HD!

Well, in a way, but it comes down to YOUR uses for the device. If you want, give me a jingle Monday and I can probably help you narrow it down. That said, you can't go wrong with the CO-X. And, if you get it and are not happy, I'll switch you for a dedicated scope in a heartbeat.

What is the FLAG version? How does the CO-X compare to the CO-LR?

FLAG is film less Autogated. As much as I enjoy making money, I cannot honestly reccomendation the Filmless Autogated version over the Pinnacle considering the price difference.
The CO-x is more compact but cannot handle as much magnification. I get a crisp image at 7x with the CO-X. It is usable past that, but I like a crisp picture. The co-LR is a long range device, similar in capabilities to the PVS-27. I get a crisp image at 12x. Many customers have stated here that they use it up to 17x. I try to be conservitive with the numbers I throw out so customers are not disappointed.
Capability wise, I put the CO-X in line with the PVS-24. A guy in another thread here compares his MR to a PVS-22. CO-X and MR perform the same.

Thanks for the info. Would the LR work in front of an eotech or aimpoint red dot? Sounds like the LR is like the L3 CNVD-LR?

As far as capabilities, yes the LR is similar the the CNVD-LR, but it's uglier. Fortunately you will only be using it in the dark! ;)
You could use it with a 1x sight, but you would be able to see the light bar, which wouldn't be a big deal, but it would be like holding a 14 6" from your face. Not really ideal. It works great with a 3x magnifier though.

Have you been able to compare the CO-LR against the CNVD-LR?

Yessir, I did a size by side comparison in Austin 3 weeks ago. The CNVD-LR had one of the best tubes I have seen with an SNR of almost 34, and mine hade a Pinnacle tube with an SNR of 29. You could tell the CNVD-LR had an edge but it wasn't $6,k worth of difference by any means. I haven't yet put the two together with nearly identical tubes. It is on my short list though.
