Looking to get a Remington 700 Bolt Gun in 308.

Stopped in at Sportsmans warehouse yesterday and fell in love with the Remington 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD but hated the color (grey/green). Did some research and found you can get one with a black stock and with an AAC flash hider already installed (plan is to put a can on it). Price at Buds is 685

Stopped in at my local gun shop to see if he could order and price and he recommended just going to buds and have it shipped out to him to save on tax (9.1% here). Hanging on the wall he had a brand new 700P with HS stock. The 700P was really what i want but had difficulty finding one. Price was 875 plus tax (total 964.23)

My question is which one to get? Is the police version THAT much better? I would like to eventually put a can on so with the police would require threading the barrel. Plus the AAC-SD comes with a 20 inch barrel and the Police has a 26.

What to do?

TIA

Will

Re: First post and first bolt gun

The stock on the police is 10x the stock on the aac. It is something you'd want to replace on the aac-sd, however, for $200 you can get an hs precision takeoff.

Idk, I'd go w/the police, but either, with a few mods, gets you where you want to be.

Re: First post and first bolt gun

I have a 700P. my advice? get the SPS AAC. has a 1/10 twist, already threaded, and once you buy an HS Precision PSS take off stock, you are still money ahead. Both will shoot really well for you, but i think youll be happier long term with the SPS AAC.

My P model has been reworked. has a faster twist aftermarket barrel from rock, has been trued. For a first gun, my honest advice is get the AAC. Faster twist for shooting heavier bullets, already threaded, and a stock swap is a peice of cake and you can bed it when you do that. after that, just put some decent glass on it and enjoy having a nice rifle.

My father-in-law owns an SPS Tactical (non aac) and it shoots really well. I don't care for the stock, but it shoots sub moa groups all day long w/match ammo and hand loads. For a $600 rifle it holds its own IMO.
