First Post: Questions about R700 receivers....

... Hi y'all!

1) I have a Rem700 in .270Win, and I'd like to re-barrel it to .308Win. Badger makes bottom metal that allows .308 mags to be used in the M24 long action. Is my 700 receiver identical to the M24 receiver? In other words, can I use the Badger M5 DBM for the M24 in my rifle?

2) If I remember correctly the Army chose the M24 as a long action in order to someday convert it to a magnum cartridge (300 Win Mag???). Can my M700 long action be re-barreled to accommodate a magnum cartridge, either standard or one of the short magnums?

Thanks! Cheers!

Yes you should be able to use the badger bottom metal but I recommend getting it installed and fitted by a gunsmith.

The 270 can be rebarreled for a 300 win mag but your bolt will have to be replaced or opened up because magnum cartridges are wider.
