ok so i have a R700 in 270 ADL i want to do a build with. I have read alot of threads here and still would like some imput.

The gun will be a paper puncher 100-600yrds for now. I am a ASE master tech and being a "fixer" i would like idea's i can do myself. I will leave the important stuff the pro's but for now i am not going to have the action messed with. i want to get the gun the best i can with mild touches i can do myself.
so what do you guys and your wealth of info suggest

i already have optics for the gun luepy or burris have yet to decide what one to put on. both are same basic specs.

Any way GO!!!!!!!

Free float barrel, bed action, adjust or replace trigger. May not make it more accurate, but should make it more consistent and easier to shoot accurately. Handload, if you don't already.

Replace the stock entirely. The ADL stocks are junk. Putting one of those drop in aluminum kits you listed require much of the original stock to be cut out. Polishing up a turd IMO. Depending on budget- Bell and Carlson are good for the low range (~200) up to McMillan (up to ~1000). This will free float and with full length aluminum block- you wont have to glass bed the action (however many of us still do to try to squeeze that extra 1/2 inch at 600 capability- haha).

As for trimming the factory stock for now- you could- don't know how much good it would do with a stock that flexes like the ADL stocks do.

However before you replace anything- one big question- How is it currently shooting?

Sig- well with a few diff facory loads (still looking for a quality match grade.) she will shoot just about 1.10" or there about off bi-pod sitting at bench. SO with a quality ammo i would say prob would shoot .90 or tad less. Do the stock brands you listed come with bedding blocks?

Any match ammo suggestions for now? I do plan on reloading to see what i can get her to do.

Yes they do come with bedding. Some are better than others but all are way way ahead of your factory stock. On a budget get a b&c stock or a take off 5r until you waste time on the factory stock.

do a search for what you want. Do you want a hunting rifle or a heavy range only rifle?
What is your budget? Overall goals? Plan to stick with 270?
Mentioned earlier.. bed or replace stock.. Devcon or j b weld.. ase master tech prob familiar with both products.
If you are on the cheap you may be able to machine your own pillars and do a pillar job on the adl stock..
Adjust trigger.. many articles on google for DIY.. or replace it with a drop in aftermarket.
A good recoil pad on whatever stock if you stick with a 270.. long sessions recoil will become noticeable.

Ideas:
stockys bobby hart laminate for a heavy rig. They are good for the money if you dont mind the weight..
Bell and carlson MEDALIST stock ( these have full allum bed blocks and are great for price.. Pic your poison for styles and weight.. hunting rig may want an alaskan ti or ?
Upgrade to a bdl type setup..
With the 270 you will want to either reload or make friends with someone who does..
Another option is take the 270 adl and trade it for something more suitable to target/ lr shooting 308/260/ ?

Good luck

ok

no i do not plan on staying with the .270 for more than 1yr or so. The build will be slow (family comes before toys), goal be a complete custom in few years in 338L and shoot longer range shooting, It will prob never be fired in anger at game, It will also be a heavy range rifle. First thing i will be changing to BDL, any brand bottom metal set up that will work with the Medalist, varmit/tac version medalist? badger, wyatt?

and the reason i dont want to trade for a short action is i want the long action for range distance growth down the road, and i still have a hunting/range sako the shoot .75" now that i found my load(still tweeking)

Re: First R700 project need imput PLZ

another question i have i can seem to find a direct anwser for is. what other calibers can i use in a long action (rebarreled and rechambered) before i go to .338 besides, .270,300(all vaiants), 7mm, 7-08, and 338

Re: First R700 project need imput PLZ

Well, the 7mm-08 is actually a "short action" caliber- a necked down 308. However, you should be able to use just about any caliber you would like in a long action (the army's M24 is a long action and uses the 7.62x51 (308) along with other calibers). The action length really only restricts longer calibers from being used in a short action. However, one thing you may want to consider in caliber selection is the bolt face size- as you may have to get a new bolt if you decide on a caliber with a different bolt face diameter.
