Suppressors first step in buying a can?

Re: first step in buying a can?

Contact a dealer with the one you want to buy IN STOCK. That way he is able to help you thru the process. Pay him for the can, give him your info (if you do a trust you will also need the info of your sucessor in case somethings happens to you). So full name, address, ssn, etc. He will put all of that into the computer and print out the application so all you have to do is sign, date, get your sucessor to sign and date, and then write a check to the GOBMENT for their 200 bucks. Mail it in and wait, and wait, and wait My last one took 12 weeks almost exactly but that all started back in Jan. I think it might be 12-16 weeks now.

If you have to wait for a dealer to get one in stock then you have to wait all of the paperwork for the sn# of the can to put on the app.

Hope this helps,
Mark

Where are you located exactly?

Re: first step in buying a can?

Do you have a class 3 in mind? A brand/model?

I know a guy not to far away from there in OK that has a lot of AAC and SWR in stock that could do a transfer or at least have sn# to send to a dealer.

Hope this helps,
Mark

Re: first step in buying a can?

For Missouri, you must get your C&R FFL first. $30. Get the forms from the BATFE web site.

Once you get that you can buy a can. Also be aware ther is some doubt that you can use a trust in Missouri, but it looks like you might be able to do an LLC.

I got both of mine on a Form 4 for an individual. Once I add them to my will, my heir will get them on a tax-free transfer.

Excerpt from Missouri House Bill 2034, passed and signed into law June 26, 2008, and effective as of August 26, 2008.

-------------------------------------------
(5) Was incident to dealing with the weapon solely as a curio, ornament, or keepsake, or to using it in a manner reasonably related to a lawful dramatic performance; but if the weapon is a type described in subdivision (1)[,] or (4) [or (6)] of subsection 1 of this section it must be in such a nonfunctioning condition that it cannot readily be made operable. No short barreled rifle, short barreled shotgun, [or] machine gun, or firearm silencer may be possessed, manufactured, transported, repaired or sold as a curio, ornament, or keepsake, unless such person is an importer, manufacturer, dealer, or collector licensed by the Secretary of the Treasury pursuant to the Gun Control Act of 1968, U.S.C., Title 18, or unless such firearm is an "antique firearm" as defined in subsection 3 of section 571.080, or unless such firearm has been designated a "collectors item" by the Secretary of the Treasury pursuant to the U.S.C., Title 26, Section 5845(a).

Missouri House Bill 2034 Full Text
-----------------------------------------

Since the legislation makes allowance for collectors to obtain and use functioning silencers and other class 3 materials, the most expeditious legal method to obtain a class 3 item in Missouri is to obtain a C&R license and be designated a collector of Curios and Relics as a resident of the state.

Re: first step in buying a can?

I'd check to see if your CLEO will even sign off on Form 1's or 4's, if not, talk to someone about setting up a trust.

I'm not sure about the laws in other states, but in GA, you can bypass a non-signing CLEO with a trust, and avoid the mugshot/fingerprint.
