Ok, so I’m completely ignorant when it comes to suppressors. I started doing some research but there’s a LOT to take in. I hunt and shoot at night a lot so they’ll be used in a variety of scenarios.

Thinking of buying my first suppressors and looking at a PTR Spiritus for my 5.56 and a Vent 1 for my .308 / 300BO and 300 Legend.

From what I’ve seen, these have some of the best sound suppression on the market and decently low back pressure.

    Any downfall to PTR cans?

I’m still trying to figure out if I want to direct thread or have an adapter.

    Any insights are appreciated.

The cans are really new and some people have expressed worry of longevity of their porosity tech. Only time will tell really but they seem to perform well. There's a big currently active thread with people waxing poetic on dt vs adapter, some good opinions here

They are pretty damn near expensive and new but reviews look really good. I say if you got the money go for it. They will not be the last so get what you want. One or two cans quickly turns into 9 or 10.

I hate paying more than I have to but if something is quality and will last then I’m in the buy once cry once camp.

I’ve honestly held off for so long because I felt like the suppression level just isn’t worth it on cans I’ve been around but from what I saw, these seem to be outperforming other cans in that arena so it’s peaked my interest.

My only concern would be the printed mesh portion getting clogged up or damaged somehow

They have a fairly regular cleaning schedule if I remember what I read about them a while back.

Yeah, I had read that every 500-1000 rounds you can put them in an ultrasonic cleaner and be gtg so that doesn’t seem bad.

PTR has a lot of appeal. Haven’t fired one yet. It’s not uncommon for us to go through several hundred rounds in a night making and I know I wouldn’t want to keep up with cleaning it.

The Huxwrx cans work great on gassers, but they can be flashy at night. Not a big deal for hunting, but worth considering. Full auto fire is no big deal. They hold up well to the abuses we dish out.

My opinion and just that cause all I have ever done is hold a PTR, not fire it or hear its capability.

I wouldn’t want to keep up with that cleaning regime simply because it’s more of an opportunity to have something get messed up. Once they have been on the market for a bit and they don’t get killed by the shooting crowd, I’ll look harder at one.

I was in the market for a flow through suppressor a few months ago, but settled on a standard style. Reason being for me is that it will get some use on a bolt gun as well.

They are new and expensive so if you feel like jumping in then go for it. Then you can judge for yourself and it it’s not what you want then you can try another. You won’t be buying once after you jump in the can game though especially with 24 hour approvals. ;)

And no cans are super quiet because you get sonic crack. If just taking a shot or two hunting you should be fine with no ears but I always wear ears when shooting suppressed so a few decibels difference means nothing to me. I bought three cans this year. Two flow through and a regular and shooting them next to each other with ears you really can’t hear much difference. I got the flow through for dual use on ARs and bolt guns and the regular for bolt guns only. I’ll say whatever you get make sure it has a HUB set up so you have the versatility of attachments.

Didn’t realize how new they are in general.

I’m sure this is going to be like asking about scopes but is there a can out there that’s just the gold standard for sound and flash suppression?

Being my first can I’d love a multi caliber but sounds like it may not be great across all platforms which is why I was looking at a couple to start out.

If you wanted a good all around first can then check out the HuxWrx Flow Range 36. Can use it on a bunch of different platforms and even down to 9mm pistols. A flow through design so it will work great on ARs and bolt guns. It’s about 6.7” long and weighs around 12 ounces with the supplied attachment but I took that off and use another type so it’s about 10 ounces. It’s a pretty good do all can for $969. Worth a look if you were thinking of changing up your plan.

I don’t really have a solid plan at this point. It’s like when I got into NV. So much to learn and I went through a lot of iterations before I learned what works best for me.

I just don’t want to have it play out the same way and start with the Gen2 PVS7 of the suppressor world 🤣

Well just get into the research and see what will work for you. Lots of can makers so just go with one with a good rep and product that will do what you need. Don’t get in analysis paralysis and hung up on super quiet as none are super quiet with supersonic rifle rounds. Even my flow through are plenty quiet on my bolt gun compared to the non flow Dead Air Nomad TiXC, which is a little quieter, but all quieter than a brake. lol 😉

I wonder how the porous parts handle high rate of fire. I don't know what rate of fire they are expected to handle but I could see that getting hot enough to melt. I think the cleaning part wouldn't be too bad as long as you figure out a good routine and don't let it get too nasty beforehand.
