thinking about going that route on my range "paper" rifles which will never see a hunt or shoot less than 100 and mostly 2-300,600 if i can locate such a range. sightron and swfa make fixed power scopes. the swfa super snipers are consistently well reviewed and at friendly prices, which matters. concerns are: 1) mirage in high heat which being in FL is ever present and worse with more mag. 2) small exit pupil on the ss 16x-2.6 and 20x 2.1. actually about the same as a 50mm obj on 24x. 3) really bad eye sight which might need surgery this year. i know there were some 36x scopes around which i have seen mostly on high end competetion rim fires. any thoughts, suggestions or recommendations appreciated.

I have had 3 swfa’s, a 10x and two 12x. I still have the 12x. I wouldnt go higher than 12x, 10 will do just fine. I also have a uso st-10, but i dont have that on a rifle just yet. I also have a leupold 6x fixed on a 223 which i like. I like the fixed powers......i wish there were a few more options for a fella.

I have 2 SWFA 20x scopes. Both are used for benchrest silhouette out to 1100 in the Las Vegas heat. Works for me & my 73 year old eyes ain't that good either.

thanks. any more comments welcome. BW64-bad 72 y.o. eyes in n.cent fl,got astigmatism, dry eye and cataracts. good to know 20x might be doable as i need > 4x @ 100yd to really see well. i wonder about "different" mirages. here in may-nov humidity is always present whereas in vegas must be real dry. wonder if that makes a diff in mirage affect? also, exit pupil? prob no issue in desert nor in fl summer. but, what has anyone noticed on this issue in other conditions?

I don’t think mirage is just from heat. I think it’s worse with heat and humidity. I live on the Texas Gulf Coast and 20x is a no go much much closer than the 1100 yards you are referencing. At 750 I cant tell I hit a 12” plate on any power many days in the summer as the mirage is so bad the plate is ever swinging. 20x can be unusable in humid hot climates during the heat of the day for sure. @mosin46 would have the same issues in Florida.

I have several SWFA scopes OP. I would not recommend their moa reticle. They are so thin and very hard to see. If you have aging eyes the reticle would be unusable to you. My father can’t see it. I have good eyes and it’s troublesome. The mil-quad reticle is perfect. Way thicker.

I hunt with those also in Northern Nevada. Temps get down in the teens. Still work fine. My son is in Rockledge & shoots at Titusville range. Seem to work fine there also.
