So glass bedded my CZ 455 in its Manners stock a few weeks ago. Best looking job as far as no air pockets smooth lines and what not. Upon further inspection I notice that the action is not sitting square to the top of the stock and that I have to tilt the entire stock to get the scope level. So after that and thinking on it I pulled it all apart and dremeled, filed and milled out the old bedding. I drilled out both of the old pillars, thinking that was what must have been offsetting it. Made new pillars to fit with just a small amount of play in the drilled holes for the epoxy to set up. Then I wrapped blue painters tape around the barrel to keep it centered in the barrel channel. And when I drop the action into the stock and push it down it is still slightly offset in the same direction that it was.

So what's keeping it from dropping in and sitting straight? Is it something to do with the tape on the barrel? Do I need to remove more bedding material? Do I need to remove the entire barrel and just do this with the action? Would really appreciate any help. I was planning on doing all of it today but once I got stumped I decided to take my time and do it right so that I do not have to do this again. Thanks for your time!

I eye balled them and they looked alright but I will do some further inspecting tomorrow. That doesn't sound like much of an easy fix. I guess I'd have to drill them out and tap them to fix this?

Oh absolutely I am just going to inspect the action, that would be the last thing that I do! And maybe a bit more carving on the stock is just what I need to do. I honestly don't know..

Did you check the lug area for clearance? Perhaps the recoil lug was sitting a bit high on one side or the back of the lug was pressing against the lug channel of the stock causing it to shift slightly? Maybe place some 20 mil tape under the front of the lug under the barrel to lift it up off your bedding and see if that levels it out. Just a thought and good luck!

The CZ 455 doesn't have a recoil lug, although I was thinking that the tang of the action may have done what you are saying. I think tomorrow I am going to hog out more of the bedding and see if that will help. I figure that if I accidentally make any nicks or gouges in the stock while doing this I can fix that with marine tex after and then paint it once it's all done!
