I have a sendero that has always shot very tight, lately I have been getting fliers though. I've chased different loads, tried different scopes, the action is tight in the stock, and have used a lead sled to try and eliminate me as the factor. Still throws a flier every 5-10 rounds and once it gets hot it throws them all over the place. Any thoughts on this? I am really at a loss here. In the past when my AR barrels have started going it was gradual, not all the sudden fliers and shotgun groups when heated up, which makes me think that maybe something else is going on.

It's a 300 win mag, the action is tight (whatever the spec is, I want to say 60 in lbs) but not bedded. I bought it used, the rifle is about 15 years old, round count by me is about 800 over the past 5 years. I have cleaned it with a copper solvent as well.

The fliers are nearly 2MOA and after 10 rounds the groups are about 50-50 between fliers and regular point of impact.

I use 2 different loads, a hot 208 amax load and a lighter 168gr match bullet load. The hot load is I want to say 72 grains of H1000 + 208 amax and the light load is 64.5 IMR4350 168. This is from memory, I've have to go get my load book to be 100% certain but neither is as hot as I could possibly go.

Any estimate of the previous owners round count, that's getting up towards the barrel life of a 300 win mag. How fast do you push your loads? What's the primary purpose of the rifle?

I have no estimate of the previous owner's round count. Typical old fat guy who claimed that he just shot a couple boxes through it.

IIRC my 208 amax load was about 2800fps, never chronod the 168 load. About once every 6 months I go out to Nevada with some friends and shoot long range on a ranch that is pretty much all I use this rifle for, although whenever I go to the range I take it with me and fire at least 10 rounds to check zero and function.

Was going to say what the people above mentioned:

Throat errosion or depending on load, 1k CAN be the life of a 300 WinMag barrel. But from the fliers coming more consistent with the barrel heating, I'd say your barrel is going.
