I am thinking of purchasing one of these units. We have the opportunity to spot deer a long way away where we hunt so I was wondering how far away I could expect to pick up deer with these. I know that they are rated to pick up a man size target to 1080m so how about an elk size target?

They will do it well. I love em. If the internal battery is OK for you then its my favorite Thermal viewer out there. I am using a M64 RECON 640 and the LS64 has a larger lens so it should do better. I can see cows at 1 mile

I want one..... Just so much money. Me and RobertB hunt a lot together. He has the flir M24 recon in 640 as he said. I've been using my dads flir ps24. Honestly if he can see it, I can see it. If I can see it he can see it. He can just see a little better detail. But that little detail sure makes me want a 640!

Now, with that being said. Ask yourself if its worth $4000 more than a ps24 to see it a little clearer. I can see getting the 640 for a clip on or a dedicated scope but really if you just want to spot heat then the ps24 or 32 will hook you up. I have had the ps32 and I used the ps32 right beside the ps24 and I seriously can't tell a difference in the 2 other than the 32 has a 2x digital magnification.

Good luck sir!

Oh and I've spotted deer out to 700yrds on a clear night by range finder with a ps24. It's not supposed to reach past like 300 but that's crap. It'll easily go past that. I have seen cattle past 700 with no problems.

FLIR has a new PS-32 Scout with a 320 core and 35mm lens with a 640 display that is a KILLER improvement over the current PS-32 with 19mm lens and 320 display, I'll get some pics of it in action soon.?
