Floating barrell!

Hope this is not a dumb question for you all.
I have a Ruger M77 MK2 in 270.
It seems to have lost its accuracy.
I checked the barrel against the stock by slipping a 20 between the barrel and the stock and find that the front of the stock is touching the bottom of the barrel for about the final inch of stock? Do I need to remove the barrel and trim down the stock to let the barrel float untouched?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: Floating barrell!

Yes.

There could be other factors that are playing a bigger or smaller role in your observed loss of accuracy, but in this instance, the stock would be a real good place to start.
