FN PBR

Re: FN PBR

Well, its based off of the Winchester pre ’64 70 action, which is a fantastic action. Built in recoil lug and controlled round feed are arguably the most popular features of the Win action, as well as its large claw extractor.

Most smiths are more familiar with the 700 style action, and there are far more parts available for the Remmy. Is the Remington a better action? I don't think so, definitely more popular.

Re: FN PBR

What do you want to do with it? If you want to trick it out and make it pretty, then go Rem700. If you aren't much for neat stocks and upgrades, then the PBR is fine. I have a PBR and love it. I had a hard time finding any type of "custom" stock and decided to keep the hogue that was on it. I had Jeff at CDI put his BM on it, and it's good to go.

Kyle at XLR Industries has a his inletted for the FN PBR/SPR actions.

Re: FN PBR

The FN PBR XP is control feed. The non-XP is push. I had a PBR (non-xp) and liked it. It shot great and I would have kept it but already had plans for two other Rem 700 20-inchers.

Re: FN PBR

I'd take a Model 70 over a 700 any day, and yes I own both.

One of the big things that a 700 has going for it is that it is the "small block Chevy" of rifles. Aftermarket parts galore. Also with it's cylindrical body it is a good base action to start with for accurizing.

I still feel that the M70 is a better action because of the following:

- Controlled Round Feed
- Blade ejector
- Flat bottom receiver
- Integral recoil lug
- Coned breaching
- Both of the bolt lug raceways are blocked when in battery. Helps keep gasses out of your face in the event of a case failure.
- Left gas block serves as contact point for bolt stop instead of the bolt lug.
- Three position safety
- Reliable two lever open trigger
- Bolt handle won't break loose like a Remmy. It isn't soldered straight to the outside of the bolt body.
- Well finished and machined. (except for the post 64's made in the 70's)

Re: FN PBR

Its not a bad way to get started in precision shooting if you're on a budget, My first rifle was the FN PBR 20" (CRPF) for less than $1500 with an optic. Just send it to a smith to have the trigger adjusted and you're GTG. I still own mine its a solid .75moa with 168 FGMM. I also own a 700 PSS and compared to it I don't see that much of a difference.

I like the PBR trigger better than the 700 (I have the old trigger not the 40X). You can find detachable bottom metal for both, but obviously you have more options for the 700 (I like floorplates personally). Out of the box I like the houge stock better than the HS precision, but I would upgrade either one to a Manners.

There is nothing wrong with them, I like mine alot

Re: FN PBR

Nice looking stick Lazy21. I am in the middle of 3 Mod 70 builds, 2 of which will have the CDI DBM's.

I have 3 Remmys and 4 Winnys and they are both nice to shoot. As for the nitty gritty differences i dont care either way. Get the one that feels the best for you.

BM could stand for bowel movement but in THIS case 'bottom metal' as in hinged floor plate/detach mag/fixed type etc.

Both rifles would work well for that. You can get the Ruger in your choice of calibers and a sporter stock.

Sure...take the easy way out...:)

The longer barreled PBRs are accurate, light weight tactical rifles, and see a lot of use around here. I know guys that have Frontiers and they really like them as handy hunting rifles, in magnum calibers...and some do own both...:)
