Re: FN SPR...questions

91xlt,

If you are concerned about the chrome lining in your SPR barrel, have it looked at with a borescope. A well outfitted gun shop or gunsmith should have one. If you find any pitting or rough spots in the chrome lining, send it back to FNH and we will honor the implicit guarantee and replace it. If you don't have a bore scope available, shoot it. If it shoots good, leave it be. If the chrome lining ever begins to flake or come out, other than through normal erosion at the throat (and this will take a lot of shooting to do), we will still honor the warrantee.

About serial number ranges. The bores that were suspect were the rifles built in the closing days of the US Repeating Arms plant in Connecticut. After learning of the possibility of poor chrome lined barrels, we pulled all inventory and removed the barrels. Some may have made it into the field. Like stated earlier, we will honor our guarantee if it is bad chrome lining even today, years later. Everything made in the Columbia, SC plant is good-to-go. Those serial numbers started at about 24,000. If you have a lower number, shoot it, bore scope it, and if you are still in doubt, send it back and we will look at it. If it is out of spec, we will replace it. If it shoots good, I would not worry about it.

If you have a new production rifle, no worries. I have personnally shot some pitted and other-than-perfect bores on older SPRs and some of them shot really good. Understanding that you have made an investment with an FN, if it is not perfect, don't settle and send it back for evaluation if you are not sure. Bottom line, if you are not happy, we have not done our jobs.

Let me know how things turn out through an IM.

this is making me want a factory fn spr even though i haven't bought a factory rifle in years. does this warranty hold up if we cut the barrel and thread it?

great customer service, very appreciatied.

Re: FN SPR...questions

Scott,

FNH will handle returns on a case-by-case basis. In the owner's manual, FN explicitly denies all liability to any firearm that has been modified. Most firearms manufacturers do. However, FN will honor the warrantee if it is clearly our fault the product is failing.

For example, if a customer were to thread an SPR and put on a muzzle break or added a tactical bolt knob, technically, he or she has voided the warrentee. If, later on, that customer finds that the chrome-lining has begun to flake or otherwise fail, or any other defect that was apparent when it was built that makes it out of factory specifications, FNH will fix or place it. However, FNH will not replace the work or aftermarket features which voided the warrantee to begin with, such as the bolt knob or muzzle brake. Many times this means a new rifle without all of the custom features you have paid for from your gunsmith.

My suggestion to anyone, like 91xlt, before you have a gunsmith do a lot of work to your SPR, or any gun for that matter. Be sure you are happy with its current state, serviceability wise. Once you have it modified it, it is pretty much yours. Unaltered guns are much easier to look at in the service department, both for you and for us.

I hope this helps.

Thank You Very Much for your reply!!!

SN on my rifle is under the 24000 mark.

Glad to hear that it would be covered under the warranty, that was my main concern actually, as this was a problem of the past.
