I have a recently purchased FN SPR A1A 308 with the Picatiny rail on from factory. I am trying to get a deal worked out on a 4x14x50 Leupold scope. I am going to need rings. Anyone have an idea of which height I will need. I am going to get Leupold Mrk 4's.

Re: FN SPR Scope mounts?

I have an FN A3G with the base from the factory and i have a leupold 8.5-25X50 with Leupold Extra High Rings and while there is room between the barrel and objective there is no way i could use low rings. Mediums maybe but high for sure. Nice rifle by the way.

Re: FN SPR Scope mounts?

I have a NF 5.5x22-50mm on my Gap build that I had done off an FN SPR action, the barrel is a MTU contour, with lows I have about an 1/8" gap between my barrel and objective lense.

I had a Mark 4 on this same rifle several months ago. They will work on Lows.

Re: FN SPR Scope mounts?

what is your ring size? I'm running 30mm, so if you have 1" that would be the only difference. In which case, i'd say look at some mediums for the 1" tube.

Re: FN SPR Scope mounts?

I run an FN SPR A3g. I have a S&B PM-II. I run Seekin custom alloy rings. I am very pleased with the setup.

I ended up trimming the front off the scope-base so I could set the optic back just a bit for my eye relief. The base on my rifle was titanium.

I don't know "S" about what you need or height. I have one precision rifle and am learning. But my point is instead of needing the rings higher, chopping the base back a bit might be an option as well.

These pics below are BEFORE I cut the base back. I messed with it for about 2 years until I finally got the courage to whack on my rifle. Haha!

Re: FN SPR Scope mounts?

Greyson, I'll agree with you the Ti rails on the A3G's are a little long and shaving them down in the front isn't a bad idea. I'd thought about taking the rail off and sticking it on a grinder at a 45* angel tell it looked a little better. i had problems with that on my Mark 4, but not the NF.

Re: FN SPR Scope mounts?

mahiman, I don't know if all low rings are equal or not, but I have a Leupold 6.5X20X50 Mk4 mounted on my FN SPR A1 with a set of low Warne Rings. Not a lot of scope bell to barrel clearance but enough to allow use of flip up covers with no barrel contact.

Hey there- been at church and family activities. I have 30mm low smith rings I have coming with the scope. I just got a deal complete on a 4 year old Nikon Tactical 4x16x50 w/ 4" sunshade and butler caps. I hope it will fit with the lows. The scope was originally mounted in the Smith's lows so we will soon see! Be putting all together on Friday God willing . Then cutting paper on Saturday! Thanks for all the impute I will let you fellow FN guys know what happens!

Re: FN SPR Scope mounts?

Thank you. It is my first precision rifle. Had it going on three years now. I liked the test target mine came with (.315 MOA) and the rest fell in place. For Sale "used" but NIB from a PD in my own state!

How could I not?

Just now started getting up the guts to try hand loads for it. I was bench testing those loads this past Thursday in 25mph wind none the less.

One thing I really like about the SPRs is, for a newbie like me, I really can't hurt the rifle. It's heavy duty and even has a chromed lined barrel. Again, for someone like me who doesn't have a lot of rifle experience, I don't live in fear of messing it up.
