all of the FNH ring sets were made as true matching pairs. this includes the aluminum steel and titanium version. they were also made as a single piece and the tops were sawn off cap are serialized and then deburred, blasted, inspected and then coated. the aluminum are 8625 type iii hardcoat, steel are QPQ black nitride and titanium are tungsten carbide carbon PVD coated. they (steel and Ti) have integral clamping studs meaning its machined directly in the ring not pressed in. the alum have SS heli-coils and 4140PHT clamping bolts. the slots on top are not specifically for wt reduction they are designed to form 3 straps across the to of the tube an unfortunetly some scopes WILL be marked. they were designed for operational use and minor tube marks were not a concern. hope this helps answer some questions. let me know if you have any further
