Im racking my mind here about which to get so I thought maybe I should just have someone tell me. Im looking at these..all in 308

Savage PC ($760)
Savage 10 with the choate stock ($760)
Tikka T3 Scout ($899)
FNH TSR ($1050)
or a used Rem700 m40A1 clone ($750)...looks like the M40 mcmillan stock but he painted it solid tan, also it has the bull barrel with recessed crown but doesnt remember the make..says about 400 rounds fired

As far as what it will be used for: most likely 90% target shooting 10% hunting. I know the "m40" is going to be a heavy mofo. I like all three of the new ones I mentioned...the savage choate model is nice but just seems kinda bulky to me

I would go for either of the Savages. That way when you need a new barrel or want a new caliber you can do the swap yourself. Also they are usually very accurate right out of the box.

Re: FNH TSR, Savage PC, Tikka Scout

I had a few Savages with associated barrel wrenches, etc. for swapping barrels. I recently bought a couple Tikka's and sold all my Savages. I've handled a few Remingtons but never owned one, and have no desire to. The Tikka does everything the Remington or Savage will, but is smoother and more refined. IMO It also has a better chance of being an excellent shooter. I have no experience with FNH.

Re: FNH TSR, Savage PC, Tikka Scout

Im actually thinking more and more on the rem700 M40A1 clone-ish.
I just wish the stock wasnt painted over. If I can remove the paint to expose the nice Mcmillan camo finish underneath (if thats whats under it) then Ill be happy.
The barrel looks just like a m40 barrel with the 45 degree recessed crown bull barrel. Im going to look at it tomorrow. If it ends up being poo poo then Ill walk in Cabelas and walk out with the tikka scout or Savage PC. The FN TSR is sweet though but its a little steep. There is also a new rem700 5r milspec but its over $1200?? I didnt think those were that much?
