I've got an Nightforce ATACR that I've followed the instructions as far setting the focus but at longer ranges it's starts getting a little blurry(500-800yds). Is this normal or have I not done it right or just my aging eyes.
Not new to shooting or optics just to shooting extended ranges.

Yes. I focused the crosshairs with parralax on infinity. Then when shooting at distance I can set my parralax for the target but the crosshairs will be a bit fuzzy sometimes almost to the point of seeing a double line.

You might try adjusting the focus in small increments instead of looking at the reticle and changing the diopter until the reticle looks clear. In other words, open your eye and look and the reticle, if it looks fuzzy, close your eye, adjust the setting and repeat until you open your eye to clear reticle. Sometimes when you stare at it for a while your eye will strain to focus and then when you have a little eye fatigue it will get all wacked out again. additionally, you may have a tendency to strain to see the target if you are not a clear 20/20 and the longer the range session, the more the reticle will begin to pull in and out of focus. drglock,

    try this:

    Setting Reticle Focus
NOTE: To prevent the natural tendency of the eye to adjust and compensate image clarity, do not fixate on a particular object for a prolonged period of time.
    1. Set the scope magnification to the highest magnification level.
    2. Rotate the eyepiece counter clockwise until it stops rotating.
    3. With both eyes open, point the scope toward a white wall, or to the sky. Do not stare at a particular object.
    4. Rotate the eyepiece clockwise until the reticle is clearly in focus.
    5. When the reticle is in focus close your eyes for 3 seconds, then reopen them. The reticle should still be clear and sharp. If not, repeat steps 1 through 4 until the desired image clarity of the reticle is reached.
    6. Set the magnification to its lowest level to confirm that the desired image clarity of the reticle is achieved.

I know it's a nightforce but setting focus is pretty much the same in all scopes.

In addition to what ssgtkyle suggested, ensure your parallax is on infinity.

I experienced a focus problem with my new ATACR. Nightforce ended up replacing it for me. I like the replacement so much I plan to get two more ATACRs.
