For quite a while I'd been meaning to make myself a barricade for no other particular reason other than to try something different at the range. The only problem was that I drive a Jeep so everything sort of has to be tailored to the limited amount of cargo space which meant that designs like the VTAC barricade were out. I'd kicked a few ideas around on paper but it never went much beyond that. Last weekend I was cleaning out the garage and happened upon a few things that I'd forgotten were even there. A scrap section of 3/4" plywood, some left over cans of spray paint, and two angle brackets became the makings of a barricade. I had everything I needed except the hinges which cost about $5 from Lowes but all in all it took less than an hour to put together. Folded out to 90* and with regular camping stakes going through the brackets the barricade was pretty stable but I may add another set of brackets in the near fuure. A couple of carrying handles were added this morning to make it a little easier to move around.

Folded up its 4' X 18" and lays perfectly in the cargo tray I have on the back of the Jeep for hauling around targets.

In the future I might make another one that is a bit taller but I had to go with what I had to work with. Even at 4' tall though I found it to still be pretty useable in the standing. Hope you enjoy the read.

    Nice.

Remember though, barricades don't need to be the "traditional" stair step to get training value.

My barricade "trainer" is a 2x4 ladder. I use it for practicing positions but I am not so much worried about time. It can be slower for transitioning between the levels, but it fits a whole lot better in my car.

That's a great point, I was at work one day and thought about how the little step ladder we carry could be used for improvised positions. I mean you've got the top, different levels of steps, and if you turn it sideways you can utilize the supports. There's also been more than one occasion that I considered getting a folding metal chair and using that but in this instance I just made one out of what I had available. The possiblities and options for barricades are endless and about as far away as Lowes/Home Depot.

I have done the folding chair before at the the range. It works pretty well.

People sometimes forget that the goal isn't to do what we do well, it's to perfect what we don't. So shooting well off a wobbly ass range chair will definitely improve your skills off a solid barricade.
