A couple of months ago I posted about my shooting exercise program with a Rock River Predator. Time is limited so I wanted to see how long I could go between cleanings. It is hard enough to get time to shoot adding 15-30 minutes of cleaning to the session means a no go lots of time. I shot over multiple sessions 320 rounds. I started missing stuff that I had previously been hitting from prone.( I miss damn near everything off hand.)

Stopped and put the gun on the bench. It shot a nice round 2 1/4 inch 10 shot group. I cleaned it and it went back to the usual 1 to 1&1/4 ten shot group. I guess that proves that 300+ round is to much between cleaning.

This afternoon I shot about 50 rounds and at the end I pulled one tight fitting patch soaked with Hoppe's #9 through the bore and followed it with a dry patch and put the gun away. That only added about 5 minutes time to the session.

Anybody got any suggestions about other solvents or very quick procedures that will keep accuracy up to par.

Re: follow up on how often to clean

Try shooting PMC ammo, I have ran at least 500 rounds one outing then another 200 on another and didnt have any problems with accuracy at all. As far as cleaning wise I have been using M-Pro 7 and it seems to prevent fouling in the barrel. It still happens but not nearly as soon.

Re: follow up on how often to clean

Some people only clean every 1,000 rds or so, don't know how it affects accuracy though.

You could always just shoot some GunBlast through it; made by CLP, no oil, just sprays off carbon real quick. Put on the long skinny red straw, stick in the chamber and spray until it comes out clean. Then wipe off(it dries real quick) and store.
