If you can do it, making your own is the way to go. If you buy one, the Cuddeback (I use this one) and the Moultrie are pretty good. Most will have good image quality. A big consideration is the battery usage. You can add a solar panel to the Moultrie camera so you won't need to replace batteries. Otherwise, plan for a new set about every other month (or more often during cold times with lots of pics).
