Re: For all The Chevy Guys
ok, I'll give you more...
the kid was recently promoted, so he probably isn't a POS... that makes me think he wasn't abusing anything.
when the supervisor asked him to start working weekends, and the kid mentioned his military duty, he was alledgedly told to choose.
when he informed them he would need time off to attend training he was terminated.
and I've also seen both sides, it's pretty easy to tell who's milking the system, in fact it is RARELY the kids, old guys are more likely to do it, the kids are however more likely to be all gung ho and volunteer for extra stuff.
and if you see that as a bad thing, you're a complete tool.
as to the just move on part of your post, sometimes it's not about getting the job back, or having a "free ride", it's about standing up for what's right and just... the exact things the Corps is teaching this kid about.
I've seen a LOT of guys just quit their job, because some douche supervisor gave them hell about military service.
I've seen guys go on a deployment to Iraq for 400days, come back to work withing a week ( they have 90 days to report back ) and 6mo later ask for a vacation, when they have 3-4wks of vacation time saved, and they're told "but you just had a year off".
I've seen them essentially be demoted while on a deployment, "because they're not here anyway, give it to the guys that are working".
and employers get away with it because too many people "just move on".
