Hey guys, I'm looking for a 9mm handgun to use with a suppressor (as yet unpurchased). My requirements aren't huge, but as a general rule I'd like at least a 4" barrel, at least 12 round capacity, and of course reliable and high quality. I think I can spend up to $1300. I currently have a 4" Bi-tone XD 9mm which I like but do not absolutely love. I shoot it okay, it functions well, etc. I could sell it if I need to I'm sure, but it would also be better to keep it I think.

I saw this handgun and it looks awesome- aluminum frame, proven performance, threaded barrel, etc.
Sig Sauer P226-

Kind of heavy though.

Or, Get a Glock 19 and a seperate threaded barrel for it
Or, get a threaded barrel for my XD-9mm (from EKF Firedragon, probably) http://www.efkfiredragon.com/springfield-xd-threaded.html
Or, Get an XD-M 9mm (love the new grips) and then also get threaded barrel.

As you can see I'm kind of all over the place at this point.

Re: For supressor use... need a new handgun

Reliability is going to be a major factor with suppressed pistols.

The Glocks aren't as suppressor friendly as a SIG - especially not the Glock 19 (shorter barreled Glock).

The Sig might be the way to go. Beretta's 92's are very suppressor friendly, but obviously not very many people's first choice in sidearms.

Re: For supressor use... need a new handgun

Gun store near me has a Sig 226 Elite Dark w/ threaded barrel for nearly $300 off retail price. I think I'll be paying them a visit tomorrow. I liked the scorpion, but black is always in style.

Plus, if I decide I don't like it later, I highly doubt I'll have issues getting rid of it.

HK45C Tactical - (aka MK24 Mod 0)

If I had unlimited funds I would buy a Nighthawk AAC Edition Pistol.

If you are on a budget it is hard to beat the M&P 9mm that comes with both a threaded barrel and standard barrel for around $500.

Re: For supressor use... need a new handgun

I have the Scorpion P226 but was unable to get the threaded version so I bought a threaded Storm lake barrel. The YHM can is still in the way to slow form 3 transfer process

So far the P226 Scorpion runs like a top and easily survived 2 3 gun matches so far

Ill have to disagree. I do not feel like you get your moneys worth with this particular handgun. I have both the 45 Tactical and the USP9SD.
The 45 tactical is flat out awesome, very accurate, with a match trigger. I am not achieving the same level of accuracy out of the 9mm and the trigger sucks. Im going to be trying a threaded 226 scorpion, as soon as it comes in.

I agree, you don;t get your money's woth out of the USP 9 SD. And that's coming from an HK fanboy. But, he said 9mm, not .45. I can recommend alot of other hosts in different calibers, but he asked for 9.

Re: For supressor use... need a new handgun

Just to follow up guys. I did something very impulsive and I purchased a Sig Sauer P226 Dark Elite TB. I like the scorpion but I don't have to have that color and that was the only functional difference.

I like the controls on the gun so far and I think the DA/SA trigger is very nice. I like the decocker.

I am selling an XD to pay for an AAC Ti-Rant 9mm can. I hope to get some nice slightly thinner grips for it made out of something other than aluminum- I like the Hogue grips, any other options?

That hasn't been my experience. When I first bought an SWR Trident, I owned a Sig 228, 229, and P6, as well as a Glock 19. I took all four models to the range and compared them all with the same ammo (Winclean). The Sigs (all of them) blew so much crap back in my face that I chose never to shoot them suppressed again. By contrast, my G19 didn't toss much stuff in my face and has run suppressed, flawlessly, for years now and has never had a single hiccup. I use a Lone Wolf barrel with it and it runs great. Sigs probably run wonderfully for others but they would not be my choice.

Ding. Ding. Ding. We have a winner.

...or the USP 45 Tactical.
