Is it better to file as a individual or as a trust when getting a suppressor? From what I understand the individual route is quicker but the trust route is better if wanting to have multiple people use the can. And is it possible to go individual at first get the can back sooner then refile it as a trust, and if possible do you get to keep it while the trust paperwork goes through?

It depends. A trust is a better long term solution for the most part. You can do it as an individual, then transfer to a trust, but you’ll pay for another tax stamp in the process. While you’re waiting for that approval, you’d keep the item.

Edit: I just got a trust approval back in three and a half months. There’s really no predicting times. Set aside the wait time and do it right.

Lunchbox is right. Once you have one or more to play with, waiting for another is easy. I have two in jail and literally forgot about the second one and was only reminded because I logged into my SilencerShop account and saw the Form 4 pending. I'm clearly a spoiled brat.

Roger that. 3.5 months is way quicker than what I was thinking. Last time I looked it was like 15 months

3.5 months is definitely not the norm - so don’t make a decision based on that.
min the last year, I had 1 customer get an approval back in 45 days.
everyone else is right at about 8 months.
just got 3 stamps back this week that were cashed between 5/19/19 and 6/1/19

I'm impatient lol. I have issues justifying spending 800 dollars on a can then having to wait a year. But I guess I need to go ahead and do it. If I never buy I'll never have one

On a side note how does it work if you move states after doing the paperwork but before getting the can back? Just more paperwork I assume?

I was almost in that boat last year. I was told I may have to resubmit the Form 4 which would move it to the bottom of the pile. I was also told if I called the ATF to explain the situation they would fast track it to get it reviewed prior to moving (it had been nearly a year by that time). Luckily the Form 4 was approved before I moved and I didn't have to take any action. That said, our need to move arose in a 2 week window and I didn't have the usual amount of time to file and allow processing for the form 5320.20 (to transport interstate, mainly for SBRs). So I called the ATF and spoke with a very nice examiner who fast tracked and got my paperwork reviewed and approved in 3 days. So, based on my experience (and that of others), the ATF can be accommodating when they want to. But if you're planning to move soon - my advice is to wait.
