forster case trimmer

Re: forster case trimmer

Love mine. I trim with it, neck turn with it etc.

It's IMHO by far the most precise unit this side of the $$$$ benchrest specific units. I neck turned 65 pieces of brass today. It held a tolerance of .0002" among all the cases.

You do realize that the basic Wilson trimmer 'benchrest' unit is actually fairly inexpensive? It's only if you start adding all the extra 'goodies' from Sinclair International that it starts getting more expensive. I'm not saying those extras don't add some value, but the basic Wilson trimmer is *not* '$$$$'.

I'm curious how you were measuring to two ten-thousandths on a cartridge case OAL... do you have a larger than normal (1") micrometer?

+1 for the Wilson. Had mine for 20 years and only prefer the Giraud.

FYI, there are some calipers that read to >0001". Reliable measurement with that instrument is questionable.

Re: forster case trimmer

I haven't been happy with the consistency of my Forster trimmer. I get a few thousanths of variance.

It could be something I'm doing wrong, but I'm going to try the Wilson.

iam not sure about him but i will be measuring the OAL with a dial indicator and useing guage blocks to set it up, their you will see its measurment in tenths

Re: forster case trimmer

Well, the man did say he was neck turning to .1 thou, not trimming. And I don't think any rifle yet made will notice any difference in accuracy from modest variations in case length.

memilanuk :

You read wrong. I SAID I was NECK TURNING AND IT HELD .0002"
and yes sir, I am a 15 year career machinist. I have a variety of measuring tools, including micrometers big enough to measure the width of your head, temple to temple.

Fuzzball,
Agreed.
