There is a guy that works with a friend of mine that is hurting for money and has a Kimber for $500. He said it was a Kimber Custom all black with a 5" bbl, 3 mags. I don't know much about Kimbers. Just that they are expensive when new. Should I jump on the deal or not. Seems like a straight up guy because he wants to go through a ffl. Which would cover both of our backsides.

Thats a pretty fair deal for any Kimber in decent shape. If I remember right, the original Kimber Customs (Clackamus, Or.)sold for about $600 when they first came out in the 90's.

Find out if it's a series II gun. MSRP was over $800 but they could be had for about $675. $500 is a good price and I'd buy it if I had the opportunity.

I have a Kimber Custom that I bought back in 2001. I was around $1000.00
The lower frame is stainless and the upper slide is coated black. Ambidexterous safety, lanyard loop hammer, checkered backstrap.
They are good shooting guns and it is a good deal at $500.00

You can also go to gunbroker.com, type in the specific kimber model and see what they are going for on the 'net. I have 3 kimber handguns and love them all. $500 sounds like a great deal.

Well crap, I told him i would take it, but apparently he's not hurting to bad for money. Because he told my friend that he would rather sell it to someone he knows. (I think he is wanting to buy it back when he gets back where he wants to be on his finances). I told my friend to tell him if he's just wanting a loan to take it to a pawn shop! But, I also told him my offer is still on the table if he ends up wanting to sell it.

I have a Custom II that I love. I'd pick another one up but in a stainless not the black coat (I am HARD on my pistol, constant water exposure, plastic serpa holster, salt water, it gets banged around, dirty, muddy etc and NEVER had an issue or a hang up except that the black coating is wore off).
