My son has shown interest in long range shooting and I am in the process of building him a rifle. Looking for a used optic around the $500-$600 price point. I’m not picky as far as aesthetics are concerned as it will be wrapped.

He might take 600 since it's for your kid. Also I recommend Nikon FX1000 6-24 x 50 from Europtic. $600 I believe. I own two and they're great.
