Free Bacon, Officer? Sure!

But, but, but.... my wife graduated from college in Arcata. My mother still lives in nearby Eureka. Let's just say that the ganja is strong in them parts and leave it at that.
Arcata could very aptly be described as Portland South. Portland would look at Arcata and say: "you're weird". And believe me Portland is weird.

It might depend on the local state livestock laws and if the animal was herded onto someone else's property so that person could kill them.
Different states have different rules about escaped livestock and what the various responsibilities are, specifically when the animals are not threatening.

My sister once had a herd of cows start walking through her back yard eyeing the pool when they escaped from a farmer's field several properties away. Called the local police and the sheriff came out with a literal honest to goodness old fashioned sheriff's posse and rounded up the cows and herded them back to the correct property.

The family may have more luck perusing charges based on livestock rather than pet and since they were showing the pig at events, they can easily fall under the livestock category.

Both the livestock and pet laws there greatly favor the owners. The butcher is screwed. It likely will not involve jail time but it's really going to cost him a lot of $$$$ in lawyer, fine and restitution.

We cannot even remember what we fuss about on here yesterday so doubtful we will figure out what happened between Hatfields and McCoys long ago. It was most likely not a single event that got the ball rolling. More likely just a combination of small things built up then something pushed it over the edge.

Where do the SJW's get off calling the guy a savage? Opportunistic and cold hearted? Sure. Just not savage to save some money on the grocery bill.

Irregardless, that's an awfully expensive pet. I bet she at like a...

Found their city codes.

Sec. 5311 Livestock not to run at large.
The running at large of any horse, mule, donkey, cow, hog, sheep, goat or cattle of any kind, in or upon any street, avenue, alley or any public place, or upon the property of another where the same have no right to be, is hereby declared to be a nuisance, and it shall be unlawful for the owner or person in charge of any such animal to suffer or permit the same to so run at large.

Sec. 5314 Enclosures required for certain animals.
No person shall keep any cattle, horses, mules, burros, swine, sheep or goats within the corporate limits of the City in any place except within a substantial enclosure; provided, however, that this section shall not be applicable to any such animal while being worked or while being driven to and from pasture or market, or while it is under the immediate personal control of some person, or when substantially picketed.
Within this section, "substantial enclosure" means a barn, corral or an area of land enclosed by a fence of sufficient strength and so constructed as reasonably to prevent any such animal within such barn, corral or area of land from breaking or forcing its way out of or through the same or escaping therefrom.

I dont know if this happened in town or what, but I wonder if they were even allowed to keep a pig.
