I just got a DPMS Mk 12 barrel for my DPMS and and I'm looking for a good free float tube for it. I would really like a modular system so I can add things like NVD and bipods w/o having a quad rail system. What opinions do ya'll have? As of yet I'm liking the V-Tac system.

What's the budget? I've found an inexpensive route is to get the Model 1 Sales free float tubes at around $40 for the rifle length. They are pretty thick and sturdy. I then decide what I want to add and where, then drill and tap for add on rail sections.

Other than that, there are at least a few that offer the "bolt on as you need 'em" rail systems. The one that you mentioned is nice and Yankee Hill offers one too.

I am looking for the same thing for my AR build. The best deals I have seen that come from quality manufacturers are the Troy TRX Extreme (and the VTAC Extreme, which is the same thing just with different shaped vent holes), and the Midwest Industries SS.

Check them out on Google shopping for some prices.

The Troy/VTAC is cool because it is really narrow, and lots of people say it feels really good in the hand. However, they come in odd lengths... they are designed to use over a low-profile gas tube. So if you want a gas block mounted front sight like I do, then the MI SS may be a better fit. The Troy costs a little more, but apparently it comes with it's own wrench for removing the factory barrel nut and installing theirs, and with the MI SS you have to buy the wrench separately. So the price pretty much evens out.

I have a particular fondness for the Larue Tactical Fore-ends. The bottom rail on the LT doesn't protrude as far down as other rail systems. With ladder panels it feels really good.

Troy TRX extreme rails are nice, but I think more suited towards carbines. The Larue is more rigid and has a pretty hefty antirotation system.

Consider the weight of the rail.

Re: Free Float tube recommendations

Guys thank ya'll for the thoughts as far. But I have noticed that some of the recommendation are for AR15 only. Another AR15 is my next project thus I see some good ideas. However my current project is a DPMS LR308.

Also I really don't have a budget for this rifle. I am willing to spend the money in order get what I want.
