Welcome. Beautiful area. Was there in 1989 when I was in the Marine Corps on a Westpac. Pulled into Mackay and Townsville if I remember correctly.

Yeah would have been mate. The American marines are there a lot doing beach landing exercises. They even flew a few planes all the way from Alaska for a paratroop drop to practise long range drops. Although that was the American army and airforce.
