Hey guys, any of you have a NV scope mounted in front of the dayscope? My 300WM project will be ready in few months so this what it's for. I like the idea of having the front NV scope so there is no need to sight/re-sight the NV device. Take it off when not in use. Put it back on for night time shooting/hunting.

My question I guess is what brand other than ATN you have in mind? Don't worry about thermal devices since I can't afford any of them. I need it to be able to recognize a man size target out to 600 yards. If you need to know what dayscope I will have, it's Nightforce 5.5-22x50.

Of course, it has to be tough enough to handle the 300WM abuse.
This NV stuff is a 6 months project or so, so go ahead and throw it at me, at this point I don't even know what my price range is.

Thanks all.

+1 on giving Victor a call, he'll square you away. Plan on spending between 8-10k.

Thanks! I'll save that website in my favorites. I didn't really expect that some of them are 1000+meters capable.

Re: Front mounted NV device?

Effective range.... From what I have experienced with the PVS27 with good moon light a shot at 500 yards or more should be no problem on a hog. The farthest I have shot it with half a moon was 700 yards on steel.

Re: Front mounted NV device?

We are using the ATN PS22 and we have engaged targets out to 500 yards they seem to be working very well. I've had them on both bolt .308's and AR .308's.

I'd contact ATN for the specs on mounting on a .300 mag

Good luck I love ours

Re: Front mounted NV device?

My unit just got 2 L3 AN/PVS-24s. I just got them 10 min ago no shit. I know most guys are running the 27s on bolt guns but I found the 24s to meet our needs. These were about $8,000 on GSA. Came with a nice case but with old school ALICE CLIPS. I am working now so I cant post a pick but I will write an update after our next ESU range date.

Re: Front mounted NV device?

There have been MANY reports on severe POA/POI issues with the PS-22. I for one experienced issues on 7 units with a local LE agency that received them. These are at best hit or miss systems.

You get what you pay for with the OSTI units. Their shock mitigation systems is a fantastic internal device that we have yet to break anything on big recoil guns.

L3's PVS-24's are good systems, they were made specifically for ACOGS and Elcan Specter DR's on the SOCOM BLK II contract. They only have a 56mm objective (PVS-22, 68mm) so light gathering and magnification of ones day scope if in a very dark arena may be limited without active IR.

The 27, no comparison in the light gathering ability compared to the rest. Everyone shoots VERY far at night with these!!

Where in the Dallas area do you shoot at night out to 700 yards?
