I need some advice.

i bought a chamber headspace gauge and I mounted it on my calipers. I zeroed the tool on the gauge. I put a once fired piece of brass from my chamber on the gauge and it measures 1.610. I set up my die and I am measuring brass coming out of it as 1.606 on the same gauge as above. Have I sized too much or is this measurement on the brass good to go?

info: GAP .308, Hornady TAP once fired brass, Forester FL die and CO-ax press.

THANKS

Re: Full sength size die question

bumping the shoulder .004 is not way too much, but you should try to shoot for .002 if you can. For reference of where you are, if you have a SAAMI spec case, measure that and see what you get.

Re: Full sength size die question

I try to keep my dies set for .0015" to .002" between shot brass and sized brass. At .004" or more you are going to start thinning in the area just above the case head.

Trying to size cases to match a SAAMI gage only means you are trying to make ammo for any rifle ever made in that caliber. Reloaders need to make ammo for THEIR RIFLE!

Do as Victor says, your cases will still strech but it will be much less.

1.608" to 1.6085" would be a very good setting. This should give you easy bolt manipulation before firing.
