With respect to the inevitable caliber debate, I say BULLSHIT. With premium defensive ammo you are not giving up anything to the heaven sent beam of certain death .45

Yes, but 9mm in 1911 is just too boring. Don't you get tired of shooting out the bullseye at any distance? Plus, I love to feel the thunder of the .45, 9mm is just too...blah....like taking a McClaren F1 to the track to spank Corvetts and crotch rockets all night.....after a while it's just boring.....

if less recoil is what your looking for id say go for it i did it once before on a colt commander, although i can say its not as satisfying as the 45.

I have had my eye on a Para P18 for quite a wile. I have had very good luck with 2 P-14's. I think the Para in 9 would be very plesant to shoot. Anyone have experince with a P-18.

Unless you cast your own bullets, you cannot load .45 for what my 9mm ammo costs, and if it was much lighter, teh gun wouldn't cycle at all.

Re: Full size 1911.... In 9mm? Your thoughts?

Having owned and built many 9mm 1911's I can say that in my opinion it is a nice rig to have. Not to mention you can have a .38super barrel fit to it also and have a dual barrel set!

And, if they are done correctly they will easily keep ten shots in under 1" at 50 yards...always nice to have an accurate hand gun.

Joe Chambers

Re: Full size 1911.... In 9mm? Your thoughts?

If you are going on an 1911 platform I would get it in 38 super...just more power. If you have doubts just search ballistics testing for the 9mm vs. 38 super.

Re: Full size 1911.... In 9mm? Your thoughts?

if you shoot a 9mm in a 1911 platform shoot +p or +p+ becuase the slide is so heavy that sometimes it'll give you problems. While at wilson combat loading their ammunition the 1911 in 9mm I was using was giving me some issues. after messing around with the load they gave me I got it to run and determined that the slide being steel is a bit heavy so i would run +p and make sure it works.

Re: Full size 1911.... In 9mm? Your thoughts?

Mine seems to run fine with 147s at 900 fps. I shot it enough last year to completely wear out the recoil spring in about 3 months. It's a real blast.

I can't get my STI Trojan in 9mm to fail.

Granted, I've only fed it Win white box. It got so dirty, i actually felt bad and broke down and cleaned it the other day. The thing just keeps goIng bang.

Not to mention its the most fun and accurate gun I've ever owned.

I don't have a lot of experience with "good" handguns. But that seems damn impressive to me!!

Re: Full size 1911.... In 9mm? Your thoughts?

There is no need for a recoil spring over 12.5 pounds in a 9mm 1911. I run a 10 lb in mine with normal loads. I run a 12.5 in my .40 and 14 lb in my .45. I don't think there'd be any harm in running up to, maybe at most, a 14 with really hot 9mm loads, but I think you'll find that such a heavy spring is completely unnecessary.

Re: Full size 1911.... In 9mm? Your thoughts?

Congrats on the new pistol. If within your budget, have a second barrel fitted in 38sc or 9x23. Both feed well on the 1911 platform with improved velocity. Unfortunately, factory ammo is more difficult to obtain. Not a problem if you reload.

Kinda like having a thousand yard rifle and a 100 yard scope?
