To get some fun cold bore practice, and a real test, print and set this target out at 100 yards.

Go out every day, regardless of weather, rain, shine, snow or wind. Make a cold bore shot on this target.

Want to add stress. Superimpose a picture of your granddaughter or other loved one on the "good guy" portion of the target.

Works with pistols too. Good for dryfiring with a laser sight to see where the dot is when the hammer falls.

You can post it anywhere in the house for dryfiring, and then just to keep humble, take it to the range and shoot it with your snubby.

I know it was a movie, but the last "shooting" scene in the movie "Taken", scared the shit out of me. If that was my granddaughter, would I have had the guts to take the shot?

Still don't know if I would have the guts, but dryfiring and practicing on this target with my little 642 is increasing my confidence.

Re: Fun cold bore practice

Great idea. I know I've gotten far away from shooting groups which has increased my confidence. I have those splatter targets with something like 9 or 10 bulls per small page, so I put one round into every bull until I miss the x-ring. I can get almost half way through the set before I throw one. I chalk it up to fatigue and refrigerator syndrome. But it's also a great way to demonstrate to myself that I actually DON'T have a CB deviation.
It reinforces that attention to proper execution of the fundamentals trumps all.

Very true, and a great Idea Kraig. Doing just what you've suggested will make that decision much easier to make.

Re: Fun cold bore practice

I need to get me some more targets like that!

Actually what I've been doing lately is similar to what Kraig has been doing but I've been using several targets taped to a piece of cardboard. For example I've been using the hostage target, my take on the dot drill using scaled down LaRue targets, a simulated 300 yard LaRue, and a sheet with letters and numbers within 1" circles.

I can work on the cold bore shot, fundamentals, barricade or sling shooting, target ID and shoot on command drills all at 100 yards. It makes it fun and breaks up a boring trip to the range just to check zero.

Re: Fun cold bore practice

Good post, thanks. I'm gonna' give it a try. And when it gets too "easy" for some of the hotrods out there, might a suggest a field position other than prone, or move the target back.
