Maggie’s Funny & awesome pics, vids and memes thread (work safe, no nudity)

This is what my daughter learned to shoot when she was 5 years old. Since then, she has worked out with many handguns in various calibers, rifles from a Barrett to an old Marlin .444 to a Garand, and what she qualified on in basic training. She is home for a short visit on leave and 26 years later she joined me in the backyard to punch some paper across the yard.

I was in the last days of Boomers... and so was at the vanguard of the Gen X...

Yeah... damn right!

That said, we all said that "Gen X are a bunch of slackers and losers who will never amount to anything."

The reality is that they are the best generation in 100 years. And I include in that the so-called "Greatest Generation." Gen X have been the rocks of the post-Reagan world.

I've never paid any attention to any of the generational stuff. No particular reason, I've just never been into the "industrial generalization" or labeling of any generation. I'd say "who cares ?" but from the looks of things, some people do. I don't.

I'm a Boomer and I'm both constantly amazed as well as amused at people that trash Boomers. No one has any control over when they were born. I was a working schlepp, just like everyone else. I went to work, worked hard and earned everything I own. I didn't steal anything from anyone. Oh, and fuck any younger generation that accuses me of stealing anything from them. How fucking childish, petty and ignorant.

MuckyDick monologue post warning except it's not mostly me talking about myself or me asking you what you think of me.

There is a difference between early boomers and late boomers. Early boomers were already in the work force, voting and some even shipping off to Vietnam when the last of the "boomers" was being born. Most of the named generations cover about 15 or so years while the boomer label covers more like 18 years.

There is a lot of overlap between boomers and gen x where latch key, drink from the hose and run wild until dark is concerned. After spending a good portion of my early years taking a 12 foot aluminum skiff with a 9hp outboard and a couple gas cans scooting between islands miles apart in the gulf all day and most of the night I'm just going to call the rest of the antics cute. ;)

A big part of boomer mentality is shaped by being taught .gov is good coming from the generations who fought communism for their country and survived the great depression with the "help" of their country (the God and Country generations) but simultaneously being exposed to some of the truths that .gov is not to be implicitly trusted. The veil slowly deteriorated as we watched. The late 60's was a mess. By the time gen x'ers were old enough to be aware there was no veil and it was clear no one was to be implicitly trusted.

Some boomers made the transition and recognize .gov for what it is but sadly many did not. You can pick them out here and there on the forums sometimes siding with .gov sometimes just confused about what they support. Sadly, a lot of boomers taught the same values as their parents and tried to put their kids in protective bubbles. That's where gen x differs the most and why I still have some hope. Some of gen x walked into the world eyes open and have been passing that on to their kids. Maybe it's just my geographical location but I seem to meet a lot of "kids", late teens and early 20s, who seem to be level and flying right. It's encouraging.

Not sure exactly what "this" is that's being inquired about.

I went back to the photo and didn't spot a ring but looking at her resume I'm thinking you're not tall enough for the ride. :D

Question for the older farts on behalf of LeftyDad. My dad had a lp record album in college in 73 or 74 (for sure before 75) that had a song on it that had a train approaching and going by on it. Started off soft with dings. Gradually got louder til the train passed. The train was not a steam train.

My dad got it from a room mate who was a dj and got it from the radio station at Snow College in Utah. My dad did a prank with it at 2am pushing 20 watts and made the people on a lower story look for the rail road tracks.

I have heard this story many times growing up.

I suggest this read. It misses some of the dates for the last "change" I guess I will say. There is a second book that is to be an update.

He makes some very good points.
