Eastern Oregon is a different planet than Western Oregon. Still not a lot of people out there. Incidentally I know exactly where Coyote Jack's place was located. I went there a couple of times and found some old bottles, broken glass and other stuff. No old traps though. I hunted coyotes and bobcats near there and I had my Airedale Angus with me. I like to think Coyote Jack was there.

Photo is early 1900's. His name is Frank Marshall and his wife's name is Myrtle.

He appears to have been the Ben Lilly of coyotes.

Ben Lilly wasn't married, had no mouths to feed other than his hounds and probably had a screw loose. He killed so many bears and mountain lions, the government told him to knock it off. That was before game laws.

Heaven. In Salem, OR today. Finally pinned on my last rank for the OR Guard before I retire in a coulple years. Had to provide "refreshments" and since it was a early morning promo ceremony I had the great idea to do a table full of biscuits and a gravy fountain. Saw it here on the Hide. I thought it was a smashing idea, true to OR logger and redneck values.

Command poo poo'd the idea. Something about cross contamination and getting everyone sick sharing a gravy fountain. Cowards. So the Joe's had to settle for boxes and boxes of fresh donuts and coffee. Least I could since they had to stand there for a ceremony.

Thank you. Long time coming. Got 28 yrs so far. Plan on going to 30. Man does it go fast. Now I have an excuse to buy myself a promo present. I learned here from the Hide a Colt gold cup national match series 70 from the 1960s is a mighty fine present. Now I just got to save my shekles and then find one.

All my fellow officers chipped in and we bought one for a well respected Colonel when he retired a couple years ago.

Wouldn't a Colt 1911 from the '60s just be a 1911 since the Series 70 designation is for models post-'71?
