My 2nd previous shepard was a great friend and protector to my son when he was a baby, but he passed just a couple years later.Made me think of how generations of breeding and training come into play. Thats what G. Shepherds are bred to do. My buddy has a couple that follow him around like he's shitting prime rib. Nikita my (40%) wolfdog is just the opposite, really independent. She would go over and check the kid out, make sure its ok, then ignore it. I honestly dont know if she would protect it from a person, but God help any animal came into the yard, it would be an entirely different story.
