Heated seat, grips and a nice set of electric base layers.

No heated grips…. Heated vest… mice chewed through the wires in vest… so fucked there.

Long undies, Barbour sweater and FIDO.

Made it fine but was shivering some at the Yellowstone General Store. It was 55 by the time I showed up…

I left Wilkesboro NC one morning at 22° and snowing. I rode through Boone and across the mountain into TN. Somewhere around Elizabethton TN it was around 50° and I was damn grateful for the above heated stuff.

Sleep has been annoying since my accident. Inside of ankle is tender still and that makes it annoying. Have tried zzquill (nyquil without medicine) and it doesn't do much. Haven't wanted to try melatonin because of the crazy dreams I have heard about.

My wife used to rep Lunesta. It worked well for me. I used to rep Belsomra. It works well for some people.

I've tried OTCs and a couple different prescriptions over the years. Most will net me six or seven hours uninterrupted, but tend to keep me groggy well into late morning. I feel better with less sleep and no drugs. Melatonin isn’t as effective, but no hangover. YMMV

I’m about to feel your pain, literally. Doing a tendon repair and scope surgery Tuesday morning for a broken fibula at the joint that is still giving me issues almost 2 years later.

I have never slept more than 5-6 hours in the last 15-20 years. No meds worked for me without some wonky dreams. Bourbon works lol

23 degrees F this morning riding from Star valley to Yellowstone. Here at Tetons. The trick to riding in crazy cold temps with insane windchill… is not minding.

You can appreciate this, when Dad got back from WWII the only transportation he owned was a motorcycle. Him and Mom married and they never had a car till my oldest brother was five. They lived on Long Island and rode 365 days a year, Dad commuted to work daily. He rode off road in the grass a lot because it was better than being on the road itself.
Mom had a permanent scar on her inner thigh from the upswept pipe. He had one Harley and then switched to all Triumphs after that, he also raced trials every weekend so the Triumphs were lighter.
He raced flat track till he was 74 YO

I had one of the worst hangovers of my life on vacation there in 2013. Had a bit too much the night before at Sidewinders in Jackson Hole. Made it to the General store, downed two Goody powders, a Gatorade and some peanut butter crackers. Hangovers at altitude are a whole different deal. Beautiful area for sure, never tired of seeing the Teton range.

As for the sleep thing;

I've been ADD my whole life, had sleep issues since I was about 7, I'm 50 now. Alcohol will get you to sleep, but then it spikes your blood sugar and body temp, and you WILL wake up about four hours later restless and not able to sleep. Ask me how I know. There's also the long term affects of tolerance and all that. My tolerance was about five bourbons or vodkas to get me to go out.

What works well for me is this;

Coffee in the AM only, even though caffeine lowers my heart rate, it doesn't help with sleep at all, it makes me restless. Water and an electrolyte mix in the afternoon with a balanced diet. Magnesium about an hour before bedtime, helps with digestion and sleep as well. YMMV
