Well, i need opinions and prior experience with this one guys and galls. I have an M24 with over 10,000 rds down the tube and its time to rebarrel. I will be going with a Bartlein barrel and both GAP and TBA say they either have it in stock or can get it quickly. So getting the barrel isn't a problem. I have also looked on Bugholes and other websites and can order it dirrectly if i can ever find a good, reputable gunsmith locally that doesn't have one.

So here it is:
I called GAP and they are asking $750 for a new barrel and installation, blueprinting, and a 3/8 MOA guarantee with a 4 month turn around.
When i called TBA, Mike wants $1,250 for the same work with a 1/4 MOA guarantee and a 2 month turn around.
Which would you choose and why? I know that George and Mike are common visitors of this site and i mean no disrespect to either one. I have never done business with either one of them personally and i have been reading excellent reviews of both for years. So what would be the best option. I am Active Duty and didn't ask for any discount, don't know if maybe either one offers one, but more importantly that means that being AD junior enlisted that i don't make much. So help me out here in helping me decide with a sound mind and good judgement instead of just my light wallet.

Feel free to offer other suggestions if you can. Im in central texas and have looked into having Tumbleweeds Custom Rifles do the work, but i haven't been able to get ahold of anyone despite multiple calls over the last 2 weeks. I am interested in Fast turn around times, but not at a lack of precision. (Mike, thats not aimed towards you, just any recommendations for local central texas gunsmiths.)

Thanks everybody for your help in this.

I ordered a GA Precision Hospitaller and was quoted a 6 month turn around time. It arrived in 3 months. So the folks at GA Precision might be hedging their bets with the axiom, under promise and over deliver.

Meanwhile, the rifle is the most accurate rifle I have ever shot. That is not too say I have shot a lot, maybe only 20-30, but still. It is nothing short of amazing.

I have no experience with TBA, so I cannot comment on their operation.

Good luck and let us know what your ultimately decide.

Don't believe guarantees anyway they're BS

Kind of hard to go wrong with GAP.
Mike Lau has a very good rep that he has worked very hard for.
You could also send your rifle to Hart and they will true your action and install one pf their barrels for 650.

You could also choose to keep it fairly local and send it off to Russel. I haven't had a rifle built by him, but his reputation is excellent.

Knight11B4, i forgot about how much George has helped out not just this site but the shooting community as a whole. Between donations and everything else, I have a feeling your comment alone has reminded me where my money should go. Not to say that others didn't have a valid point. But i greatly appreciate some one like George giving back in such a great way. I spoke with Ken at G.A.P. today and i feel confident that we have come up with a plan on where to go with it. I have decided to go with a 10 twist this time instead of the traditional 11.25. The lightest i shoot is the Sierra 175 BTHP, with my favorite go to being the 178 AMAX. I get slightly better performance with the Hornady 178 BTHP, but i also use this rifle for hunting and the 178 amax works great on deer here in Texas.
Thanks for all the input from everyone.

Mike Lau is first class and understated and GAP reputation speak for itself.

That said, if time is important then I'm pretty sure the Hide member Bohem (Patriot Valley Arms) will do as good a job as anyone and for $1250 turn it around in weeks for you. Give him a PM.

I've had both and I prefer gap because they were more accurate with turn around time. I could honestly say I would still be alive when the rifle gets back to me.

Just a follow up on this. I have decided to go with Josh Kunz (Bohem). So far i am thuroughly impressed with his customer service and knowledge. I will be posting a complete review in a different thread when i get it back. Thanks to everyone who replied, your opinions were heavily weighed and were it not for my extremely tight turn around time, and Josh really knowing what the hell he is doing, I would have gone with GAP.

Keep your eyes pealed for a follow up review in a new post. I will include lots of pics and all the information i can.
