I just purchased a gently used G19. I'm not a pistol guy at all. I need advice on what to do to the pistol to upgrade the trigger. Don't want to break the bank but wouldn't mind a little better pull.

Any other uprades I should consider?

P.S. I tried searching but nothing stuck out. So don't rip me for asking a question that has already been asked.

Re: G19 Trigger upgrade

Hard to say without knowing exactly what is in your pistol. I'd first verify that you have a standard trigger spring. A lot of the LE returns and other used gun lots have NY triggers. If it's got a NY trigger the easiest upgrade is to change the trigger spring which will take it from 8 or 11 lbs down to 5.5 or under. Then I'd look at changing the disconnector, as HDC-Deadly mentioned, if you need it which will take it down to under 4lbs depending on which disconnector you get. There are comp parts out there but the factory OEM stuff works for most people.

If you have a NY spring installed, the standard spring is like $3 locally and a disconnector runs under $20. If you can disassemble the pistol you can make the changes in just a few minutes.

Re: G19 Trigger upgrade

Hands down, the best purchase I made for my G22 trigger was a Vanek trigger housing with adjustable pre- and over-travel screws. Only $35 and will completely transform the feel of your trigger.

That, coupled with a 5.5 lb connector and regular trigger spring is the perfect combination for me. It's light enough for target shooting, but heavy enough to not be tripped by a nervous trigger finger if ever in a self-defense situation.

You will need to be aware of the firing pin safety when taking the pre-travel out, but it is INCREDIBLY simple and I'll be happy to walk you through it if you go this route. It is also very easy to polish a few points on your trigger bar and connector, which can make your trigger pull much smoother.

When I was in my "Glock Trigger" phase, I ended up ordering a few extra trigger bars, housings, and springs to mess around with. After relocating the pivot point of the trigger shoe on the end of the bar, changing the angle of the spring attachment point on the crucifix at the rear of the bar, creating pre- and over-travel stops in the housing, and a good polishing... I wound up with a spare trigger assembly that is strictly for target shooting and probably comes in at less than a pound of pull weight. It's nice to shoot, but there is no way I would have it in my gun all the time.

Re: G19 Trigger upgrade

A Vanek Trigger is the best, BUT since you said your not a pistol guy drop in a 3.5 disconnector and do the 25 cent trigger job, after that just shoot the piss out of it, avoid Wolf pistol ammo and treat it like a two peso whore, if you feel the need to clean it, throw it in the dishwasher

Re: G19 Trigger upgrade

Leave it alone. The way it comes straight from the factory is good enough.

Dave Sevigny took a Glock 17 off the production line, put his sights on it, and won an IDPA championship. If he doesn't use a 3.5 connector or polished feed ramps or some other fancy doodad or widget, we don't need it either.

Just my opinion. Rant off.

Re: G19 Trigger upgrade

Leave it alone. Dry fire it and shoot it, you'll realize shortly that the trigger has smoothed out and that you like it just the way it is.

If you aren't already, "ride the link" When you dryfire, hold the trigger down while you rack the slide, then let the trigger up until you hear the click of the reset and STOP. Then you are ready to press the trigger again without having to deal with all the take-up. Works basically like a single action. Don't need to do anything to it, and a lawyer would love a trigger job if you ever use it in self defense.

Re: G19 Trigger upgrade

Are you using the correct trigger pull for a glock? I see too many people at the range pulling the trigger like they are tapping the X-Box button on MW2.
If used correctly, there is not much take up on a Glock. Perhaps you have a freak.

"Ride the link" and you'll find that you can have even less than you thought!

It makes a HUGE difference.

Re: G19 Trigger upgrade

Riding the link is a bad idea if you ever plan to shoot other guns.

It's slower for splits, offers less control and will fatigue your trigger finger.

Learn to shoot. It's not the equipment that has an issue, it's experience. You get that from constructive practice.

Monthly IPSC matches with tons of dry fire is one of the best ways to learn fast.

Re: G19 Trigger upgrade

+1 Nothing Wrong with a Stock Glock. . . . . But, if you are looking for some more feedback from different setups........

IMHO:

* Polish Frame Internals:
- Trigger Bar; "I prefer the Factory Smooth Trigger Face]
[Polish All or just the areas mentioned in the above $0.25 Trigger Job link]
- Polish Firing Pin/Striker & Firing Pin Block/Plunger
- 3.5lb. Glock "-" Connector
- Overtravel Ejector Housing [Lone Wolf; Glockworx; etc. or DIY]
- Factory Glock NY1 Return Spring WITHOUT the Inner Spring; Just the Green Frame

Fwiw/.02:
* This COMBO is my Favorite Carry/Training/HD setup:

- All Glock Components
- NY1 Green Spring; No coil return spring to break
- More "Positive" Uptake/Pretravel for First Shot
- Short Reset for Following Shots [GLOCKS are ALL = "THE RESET"]
- Crisp & Clean Trigger Break

I run an entirely different combo for Comp./Gaming with a trigger about 2 lbs w/ Minimum Pre/Over-Travel. But, this combo is prefect for Carry/HD/Training/"Tact" Apps. Been GTG for thousands of rounds from various Glocks, both SM/LG Frame.

btw: "To each their own"
