Gap Crusader

Re: Gap Crusader

it's got a 22" barrel with a 1:11:1/4 twist. I have always reloaded 168 amax's for target shooting, but with this gun I'm looking out past 1000 yards. I used some Federal Gold Matchkings yesterday and was grouping sub moa (6 inches) at 700 yards. Those were 168's. But I love to reload just because I firmly beleive you can make a gun reach it's full potential..that being said If I am hitting that good of groups at 700 yards do I really need to waist my time reloading?

Re: Gap Crusader

Oh and yes, techinally it is a comp gun but I have a real close freind that deer hunts and hog hunts with the same gun and is knocking them down at 700 plus. By the way I have a .300 Win mag 700 Police that I reload 210 Bergers for and it is a one holer at 100 yards. Any thoughts as to whether berger is better than matchking. Remember I will be using this rifle for hunting and If i can get a few nods on the bergers I would love to load some of them up......

Re: Gap Crusader

155 scenars are wayy flatter than the 175smk's and 168's... they also do a number on deer and bear. so the scenars get my vote. 46.6 gr varget ... 2900 fps for my crusader

PGS here on the hide is a hunting guide and also uses this combo.. here's part of a PM he sent me a while back.

"I killed two large black bears, one 6X6 bull elk and a large mature mule deer buck with this rifle in 2010. 530,450,320 and 320 meters respectively. All were one shot kills using the 155gr. scenar @ 2950fps."

Re: Gap Crusader

For hunting I use Berger 190gr VLD with 40gr of Varget, BR2 primers, loaded into the lands, but you can probably load it a lot hotter. I just like that in my Crusader because it is the most accurate load I've found.
