What unit where you hunting in?
nice elk! sometimes i wonder what goes thru a guide's head when you are presented with a 500+ yard shot and you tell the guide you want to take the shot. I imagine most of them are thinking "here we go again..." and then you poke one right where you are supposed to and he collects his $$$. Hats off to you guys. that's one heckuva set of bones.

This particular guide knows us so he will let us make longer shots. Problem is always the same, getting into a position to make the shot. As just dropping prone in the forest doesnt hardly ever work. This year I was watching a group of cows at over 400 and the only shooting position other than offhand unsuported was climbing up in a dead tree feet off the ground and perching my rifle on a dead limb. I had a good position but a good Bull never surfaced. Would have made a great picture.
Wow guys - nice bull....you got that right that it seldoms works to drop into shooting position in the forest. Its one thing to have a gun that will shoot that well but another to be able to make the shot. Nice shooting Matt!

Thats My rifle in the picture covering the Wound, Non Typical in 7mm WSM. Matts Rifle is a little longer and in a Manners Mcs-T Stock </div></div>
My hats off to you for thinking about covering the wound. alot of times people take pics of their trophie and its not done with much taste at all. Granted most guy s here would be intredted in seeing the wound chanel but if the pics are shown to other non hunters they might not be to excited about seeing a bloody gaping hole
