I have noticed where a lot of you guys are shooting the GAP rifles. I am intrigued by their rifles, and have added them to my list of what I might possibly purchase for my next build.

My parameters fro my next build is for a LR deer rifle, with premium glass.

For you guys that have these rifles, how much does yours weigh(full rig) in a short action. I went to their web site but they do not give rifle weights(that I could find).

Please show me some pictures of the rifle you had built, and what is the weight of the rig??

How much weight could I trim from their rifle if I went with a single shot(no magazine)?? And are they available LH'd?? Thanks, Tom.

Re: GAP Rifle Weight??

You can drop weight on tactical precision rifles by using a smaller barrel contour and shorter barrel as well as use a Manners Ultralight hunter stock.

You're going to hear numbers from 15-20 pounds for full tactical rifles but you can get much lighter. Call George and tell him what you want and need.

Re: GAP Rifle Weight??

I had them build a 308 with specs very close to a Remington 700 LTR. It was right at 8.5 pounds bare. Specs were:
GAP 7000 action
22" fluted Broughton 5.75 contour
factory BDL bottom metal
LTR take off stock

It was my primary hunting rifle for three years. Almost any bullet I wanted to shoot could be loaded sub .5 MOA.

Re: GAP Rifle Weight??

George used to make a "non-standard" hunting rifle, which was like a tactical rifle but with attention to weight (lighter stock, barrel, and mount). Call him and ask about it - it may still be on the GAP website.

Re: GAP Rifle Weight??

FYI, for comparison...

I've got a Remington 700 SPS Stainless in 270 WSM, with Seekings picatinny base & rings. Leupold 3.5-10x50mm VX-L with the B&C BDC reticle. All-up it weighs ~8.24lbs.

Shoots under MOA right out of the box with premium factory ammo.

I've thought a couple times about making a project out of it. Ultralight stock, famous-maker 7mm WSM barrel, etc.

But really it works just fine for hunting.
